FI''s mother wants to have our toasting flutes engraved. Problem is that I don''t know what kind of toasting flutes I want. We aren''t regstering for china or crystal ( no need to) and I know nothing about crystal. Does it need to be a specific thickness for engraving or what? Any ideas? Has anyone done this?

I saw some I liked on http://www.invitationsbydawn.com/. They have some engraved ones! Some are kind of cheesy, but I think so are pretty too so it''s worth a try. I hope that helps!

We got 3 sets of toasting flutes as wedding gifts. I took one set back, but then I couldn''t decide between the other 2 pairs, so I kept them... one was used at the wedding but we''ve used the other since for New Years. Do you think you''re likely to receive them as a gift from someone? If so, don''t buy them ahead of time unless you''re set on a specific style.

As for engraving, do you want this, or is it just your FMIL that wants this? You might want to call a "gift store" that handles higher end crystal because they probably have an engraver on staff and can tell you what to look for.

She wants us to pick out a style of flute and she will get them for us and have them engraved. She wants to do this because she did it for her daughter''s wedding (FSIL) and I really appreciate the gesture. It will be a nice momento of the day. I would hope that we aren''t receiving anything like this from any one else because we aren''t going to register for anything china or crystal oriented. Of course, people will give what they wish. I might try our local jewelers. They carry Waterford and such. Perhaps they will know. Thanks for the suggestions.

Oh I see. What about Things Remembered? I think that store has a lot of engravable things.

myjeanm.com has lots of pretty ones for decent prices, and they only charge a few dollars for engraving, so that might be worth looking into, especially if you're not into crystal so not wanting something really expensive. there are other websites that have them for even cheaper, but i thought this site had more of a variety. hope that helps!

That''s a nice tradition! Very sweet!

Whether random people give them to you or not sort of depends on who your guests are. Most of the stuff I got was NOT on my registry. I returned a few things, but mostly just siad "Ok... well, now I have all the chip and dip platters and crystal pitchers I will ever "need" and I guess that''s ok!" Good luck to you on that, and remember, you can return without remorse! Just make sure you write the thank you note first!
