I would like to purchase a loose stone (approx. 4 carats) to have Leon Mege create a RHR for me. I live in Massachusetts. I have heard great things about Mark Turnowski at Engagement Rings Direct and about Whiteflash. Has anyone dealt with a particular person at Whiteflash? Any comments, pros or cons about either company or would you suggest someone else? I go to NYC quite often so that is not a problem.

I have worked with Mark Turnowski at ERD numerous times and with Whiteflash once. I used to live in Houston, so it made a lot of sense to go with Whiteflash because I could just go to their office to see the stones. Their ACA and ES are gorgeous, and their service is impeccable. I bought a smallish stone in a white gold setting from Whiteflash and was thrilled with it.

However, when it came time to look for a larger stone for my engagement ring, I decided to go with Mark because Whiteflash just didn''t have enough selection in-house in the right price range for me. They could bring in stones for me, but there was a cost. Since Mark is in NY, right in the diamond district, he was able to see a lot more diamonds in a short period of time. If you''re looking for a larger stone, I might suggest ERD because Mark might be able to access more. Also, Mark is just a great, genuine and honest person - I have nothing but the best to say about him.

Hope this helps! Best of luck with your diamond hunt!

As an added bonus Mark T can and has worked with Leon M in the past so that might make your project go smoother :) Good luck and please post the beautiful results

Well, if I had the opportunity to travel to NYC, I''d certainly consider working with Jonathan at Good Old Gold. You''d need to let him call in some stones for you to look at as most jewelers don''t happen to have a lot of stones that size in-house. But Good Old Gold has the ability to give you a lot of information on the stones from helium scans and other technology moreso than most other vendors. You can see the vendors who give the most information by looking at their sites, and I personally concentrate on Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash for my own diamond searches (and have bought from Good Old Gold already).

I am presently working with Leslie at White Flash and she''s been great to work with. Highly recommended.

any of the vendors mentioned are wonderful. Goodoldgold and Mark t both work directly with Leon but folks have purchased stones from WF and sent them to Leon too. Finding a stone that size may not be easy so it may just come down to who has or can get what you want first

working in person i''d go to mark but if you have to rely on pictures I''d go with whiteflash....

I have purchased a cushion from both, and very happy with them.

Cehrabehra is right...if you are the type of picture that needs a lot of documentation: pics, reports, etc, you may want to go with whiteflash. There are processes and procedures in place, so if you like regiment, go with them.

If you can trust a jeweler to really find what you want, who asks a lot of questions, etc, go with Mark. You probably won''t get those fantastic 40x pics, but he will do his best to make you happy. You may need to follow up with HIM to ask about prices, ETA, etc since he seems a bit more laid back about that kind of stuff.
