Hi eveyone first timer on this sight. I have been looking for engagement ring. I did learn alittle bit about the 4 c''s I went to a jewler that I have been using for many years. What I picked out was the following.... 2.01 Carrots G color SI1 plus the setting is 18 carrot gold with 1/4 in diamonds. What I am trying to find out is if I am paying to much for this ring. ( 15600.00 ) Any input would be great.

Thanks
Mr T.

Not sure if you''re paying enough.

Which lab graded this stone?

What is the physical dimensions, table, depth %, crown and pavilion angle, girdle thickness variation?

EDT:
OK, for the questions above I was assuming it is a round brilliant cut, is that so?

Do you think????????

Hi Mr T

Can you post the following info please

type of lab report
depth %
table%
crown and pavilion angles
girdle thickness
polish and symmetry grades
diameter measurement
fluorescence if applicable.

The price does look on the low side as Julie says ( HI J!!!

) but if you get the above info that will help.

Hey thanks

I will have to get back to you on that. With the holiday around the corner I guess everyone is taking off alittle earlier. but I will get back to you. and thanks again.

Sorry for the delay but I have some info for you.

Report: EGL

Depth: 59.5

Table: 61.01

Crown: 12%

Pavillion: 42%

Girdle: 6 Facets

Polish: very good

Symmetry: Good

Diameter 8.11- 8.06 x 4.81mm

Fluorescence: None

Not a well cut diamond. It will be very spready, but possibly not very bright and susceptible to fish-eye. Also EGL tends to be lenient in grading for both color and clarity, and could easily be off of GIA standards by two grades.

I agree you can do better than this one.

Can someone tell me why this diamond is not really that good. What part of the info I have given is not really good..

The info you where looking for has been posted can you let me know why this dimond is not good

thank you

Stone is cut too shallow. Will probably have fish-eye issue with a slight tilt in the stone. Will have obstruction issue, which is stone becoming dark when looking at it table facing you.

Also EGL is loose on color and clarity grades, up to 2 grades off. So overall, bad deal.

The diamond is very shallow and will very likely show a fish eye, see this link for more info. It might look ok in some lights but till go dead in others and a fish eye effect is not attractive.

Sometimes EGL graded diamonds are worth consideration - not all are bad, EGL USA is said to be the strongest of the EGL labs compared to the overseas EGL's, however this stone is not well cut and as I said before you really can do better.

See this link for info on how the grading labs rank.

Hey thanks so much for the info

Mr T

Here is the cheat sheet ...

depth - 60-62%
table - 54-57%
crown angle 34-35%
pavilion angle 40.6-41.0%

(there are a few other things to be careful about so
always check with the experts on here with the details of a stone (I''m not one of them

))
