Hello All,

I am new to PriceScope and really appreciate all this site and community have done to provide data and advice on the diamond buying process. I plan to get engaged in the coming months with my girlfriend of >5 years. Being a resident, my budget is ~5K.

Diamond:
Style: round brilliant as a single center stone.
Carat: As close to 1 as possible
Cut: Excellent or Ideal; HCA <2
Color: H or I
Clarity: VS to SI

Band:
Finger size: 4.5.
Style: Halo style (round halo>cushion halo). She likes a larger halo stones because they have the effect of making the center stone appear larger. She does prefer for there to be stones on the band but this is not essential. She also likes for the band to be as thin as possible so 1.4 mm to 1.6 mm would be ideal (although i heard that thin bands can bend...).
Material: Preferably palladium as she has a nickel allergy and platinum is out of my price range.

Here is a combination I found that seems to work:

Diamond:http://www.eternitybyyoni.com/diamond_detail.php?id=1434189
Band: http://www.eternitybyyoni.com/engag...ca-Diamond-Engagement-Ring-(.23-ctw.)-169.htm

Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help!

The setting is too thin for wear and tear. You should speak to her and explain that you can do 2mm but that's it. I'll look around for you some.

What do you think of this?

I know the diamonds are smaller, BUT, the halo will give the "make the stone look bigger" look she wanted. Also, the shank is super thin, that way, she can keep it thin without worrying about damage. Lastly, thats a ritani, ritani uses a white gold without nickel, which would mean you could use white gold even though she has an allergy. They also do it with diamonds down the side, but that would eat up more budget.

It would probably be cheapest from Pearlmans.

Alright.

Here are some options (with platinum / palladium restriction):

Platinum, with halo (my favorite of the group) - $3,150
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/the-allie-platinum-5852p

Platinum, with halo and side stones - $3,350
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/nicole-platinum-5869p#more

Palladium, with scattered halo - $2,240
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/nicole-palladium-5930pa

Pair one of those with one of these stones:

.600ct, H, SI1 (on the low-end)
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.600-h-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104068959004

.782ct, I, VS1 (on the high-end)
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.782-i-vs1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104069795031

Out the door at around $5k and with an AWESOME ring.

I jut dont think spending more than half the budget on a setting is a good idea when he wants closer to 1ct. plus, it doesnt have to be plat/plad if they get a white gold that is nickel free. Also i think VS1 is not a good idea if we're trying to get as big as possible. Brian gavin makes lovely settings, but they are very expensive, especially halos. Id say BG isnt probably the place for the OP

Ritani is one of a few manufacturers that will make pallidium settings.
Whiteflash and Good Old Gold are ritani retailers. I'd work with one of them since they will provide you with idealscope images and Ritani cannot.

I'd get this setting:
http://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/french-set-halo-diamond-band-engagement-ring-in-palladium/4775 $1600

With one of these stones:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3045730.htm
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3045731.htm

Or this one:
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11145/

It will be TOP quality and exactly what she wants. And nickel free (double check with WF or GOG, whichever you work with, to make sure the Ritani setting will be nickel free).

I was about to post the same thing. The gold one is about 1700 and again, they are nickel free. Also I dont think good old gold sells Ritani anymore.

Hello all,

Thanks for the prompt responses!

Just to clarify a bit more. She does not like excessive metalwork so something like a scattered halo or a channel setting would not be ideal.

Also, if I went with ritani + whiteflash would I have to have a local jeweler set it? That seems somewhat risky....

Whiteflash sells ritani, so they would set it for you.

now i know this doesnt have an idealscope, but you can buy rounds with just numbers, though it isnt ideal. But this is a fair price for a nice sized diamond. Plus the inclusions are twinning wisps, so i bet its eye clean. Ritani can give you a photo though to make sure

http://www.ritani.com/diamonds/round-diamond-0-83-Carat-H-color-GIA-certified/D-D2H5Y1

and that would keep you under if you went plad or just over if you went gold with that french cut one posted above.

They don't - I just inquired myself. :(

I agree. I like the ritani H if you need an H, but an I should be just fine.

If the gold is nickel free IMHO I'd rather have that than plad.
