Hi

I am upgrading my 1.21 G VS1 solitaire. I am faced with 2 options

1) Ideal cut RD 2.08ct, D, SI1 $18,000 - Beautiful stone but with a loop you can see visible carbon spot on the face.

2) Ideal cut RD 3.23ct, G SI1 $27,500 EX,EX,EX - Fantastic cut, 60%/60% and perfect round, no flo, amazing stone

I plan to set the round diamond on a Daniel K empress cushion setting.
I have 5.25 size ring. Which one is a better choice ? I cannot decide.
Does the price difference justify, will the 3ct look too big for my finger?

Thanks in advance!

This is the setting in round, imagine the halo is square

Is the inclusion visible with your naked eye? Are you bothered about it being eye clean or mind clean? You won't be viewing it with a loupe all of the time so you need to decide whether just knowing the inclusion is there will bother you.

I can't answer whether it will look too big for your hand. It depends on your lifestyle etc. Would you feel comfortable with a big ring on your finger?

I have a couple of thoughts. If the spot in the 2 ct is going to bother you, pass on it and keep looking. As for the 2ct vs. 3 ct in a halo and is it worth the extra money...have you tried on a ring with both a haloed 2ct and 3ct stone? When I was looking for a replacement setting for my stone (a 3.51 cushion brilliant), I tried on a haloed round that was 3ct and was shocked at how overpowering it was on my hand. I tried the exact same setting with a 2ct stone and it was lovely. My finger size is 5 1/8. If you haven't tried them on, I'd definitely so that before you make a decision. If you love the 3ct in a halo, I say go for it, especially if this is your forever ring/stone. Can't wait to see what you decide to do.

I think Yenny hit the nail on the head. I think you need to try on a 3ct halo ring and a 2ct halo ring. For a size 5.25 finger, the 3ct with halo will deiniftely take up the entire top of your finger. My FSIL has a 2.3 RB Halo and her finger is around a 6.5 and even that takes up a significant portion of her finger.

How comfortable are you with sepnding an extra 9,000?

Can you find a "better" 2ct without a visible carbon spot staring you in the face?

I think you may find a happy medium- 2+ ct RB without inclusions.... and then a halo.

Unless I knew for a fact that I would love a 3ct and be comfortable with it for daily wear, I might save a few thousand and go a little below 3ct.

PLEASE tell us what you decide!

For me the carbon spot would be a deal breaker. It would drive me crazy. The larger stone would be amazing but I have a size 8 finger. I agree you have to try the larger one on, but I have yet to see anyone complain their diamond is too big! Maybe you can find a nice clean stone in the middle?

Is Daniel K selling settings w/o center stones?

A few years back he was not...if this has changed it would be REALLY great news for me, as he has a setting I just love, but I would prefer to source a less $$$ stone than the ones he carries...
