Engagement Ring Question

I've been looking for an engagement ring and found one that really caught my eye at Fay Cullen:

http://www.faycullen.com/products/G1025R7D/

It's definitely pricey but I like it and have some questions. The first is the price versus the diamond quality. Fay Cullen lists this ring as having a 1.7ct G color VS2 stone. The ring also includes 1.44cts of small adorning stones as well.

What has me scratching my head is the price of the center stone! When I search blue nile for a similar gem I see prices around the $14k range.

Even with the poor reviews of Fay Cullen settings, I would buy this and assume I would have to take it to my local jeweler, this deals seems too good to be true. I was hoping someone here would be able to enlighten me. Is there anything I should be aware of?

Thanks for all your help!

I'm not an expert, but the diamond certificate shows quite odd numbers (both table and depth are bad in my opinion)...I also used the HCA and it scored a bad 4 (this diamond is almost a fish-eye; good only if price is your main criterion)...
I hope some diamond experts may enlighten you better than me.

Ok, thanks...

I see what you're saying (read the HCA page) and at the same time I see a diamond on BlueNile (http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?pt=setform#diamonds_pid=LD01289386) get a score of 6.6 but at a retail price of $15,737 (without setting and additional stones).

Is the Fay Cullen stone (that scored lower - which I assume is better) worth a minimum of $6k less?

I am also thinking about appraisal value for the ring for insurance. Will is appraise at a $16k price tag?

Diamond experts, where are you??? Need help here!!!

No. Near fish eye is one problem, the other is it will most likely have obstruction issue, pavilion is too shallow, the stone will look dark when the owner is look at it because most of the light entering the stone is block by the observer.

This.

Add to that, a deal is only a deal if you're getting exactly what you want, no matter what the pricetag.
