Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here after browsing this forum for quite a bit. I'm after an engagement ring for my wonderful girlfriend since 4 years back. My initial thought, after reading up on the 4 C's, was to visit my local jeweler and provide him with the specs and design I’m after and then let him loose. Thank god that didn’t happen.. After reading on this forum I have now understood there is a whole science behind picking the right diamond and the right ring designer. I'm definitely trying to learn every little bit I can about this to make a good choice since it’s an investment and i want my lady to be happy with my choice.

I'm after a Harry Winston Micro Pave replica ring and i must have browsed most threads on this topic on this forum (seems to be pretty popular).

Budget for the ring including stone and setting is around 20k. The specs (i think) i'm after are:

1.5 Ct or above
G color or above
SI1 clarity or above
Modern cut cushion (this seems to be what the lady wants..)

Hand forged seems the way to go if one is picky about details. My gf fingers are also tiny which means i want a neat delicate halo and thin band. I found this post here and must say this is very much like what i want https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/a-year-in-the-making-maytal-hannah-halo-erd-cushion.147719/ I like that the "legs" of the crown is curved and from what i understand hand forged is a must to achieve this??

I live in Australia which is pretty far away from NY where all the recommended ring makers are located. With the geographical disadvantage do you recommend me finding someone who can provide both the stone and the setting i'm after? Or is it easy to use two separate contacts?

I have contacted Maytal that made the ring above but haven’t heard back yet. Other names that interest me after reading here are: Leon Mege & Steven Kirsch. I'm happy to hear more suggestions :)

For the stone i have been in contact with GOG and they seem very knowledgeable on stones and I’m impressed with the information they provide you with to make an informed decision. However, here is also where i hope to receive some input from you guys.

What stone and setting could i go for with this budget?

Last question.. As mentioned above my gf has really small hands and fingers so an idea was to look for a cushion that is more rectangular shaped. Would that be a bad idea in this setting?

Thanks in advance for all you help!

I think Good Old Gold is a good choice to help you find the diamond. It may be easiest to have a NY ring designer do the ring so it can easily go back to GOG and let them check the ring before sending it on to you. In that case, I'd probably use Steven Kirsch for the setting. Of course, you can buy the diamond and have it sent to Maytal in California as well. Then she could send it on to you.

Your other option a little closer to you would be Mike Robinson of Robinson Designer Goldsmith in NZ. They do fabulous quality work!

Thanks for your reply!

Ribinson surely has some really nice stuff! I'm fairly set on sourcing the diamond from the US however so having the ring made there is not a big problem i hope.

Do you have any suggestions on stones that would fit my budget and specs above? All input is supper appreciated!

Also, how would you compare Maytal Hanna's work to Leon Mege or Steven Kirsch when it comes to this type of ring?

How about I sell you my ring .. it fits all your criteria. :naughty:

haha!

post a picture of it so i can see :). May i ask why you're selling it?

any input on... maytal vs. leon vs. Steven K??

hehe.. i just realised its the link to your ring i have used to describe what i'm after..hehe.. sorry for being slow.. -_- :twirl:
