I think the radiant would look much better with the setting you've chosen. It just seems to "work" better in terms of the way the facets would look together.

I'm a big fan of emeralds, but I don't think the setting is right for one. The large facets of the emerald cut would clash with the side diamonds in my opinion.

I personally think the emerald cut would look good in that setting. It seems as if the round cuts are very petite and would add the perfect amount of sparkle in contrast to the larger facets of the emerald. I just, however, happen to like small round cut diamonds with an emerald though. It really is a matter of preference. My vote is for the emerald.

I also want to add that you won't lose with either- they both will look very nice in that setting. Your wife likes both equally?

I prefer the radiant over the emerald you listed.

typically I prefer emerald cut- but for the setting and for the stones you posted a pic of- i would vote the radiant.

I think the radiant would look beautiful in that setting! I have an emerald cut and don't care for rounds next to them. Post pics when you decide!

I like the radiant. It's very nice and I think would be perfect for that setting

I have an emerald cut diamond almost identical to the one you are looking at. It is set in a halo of round micro pave diamonds. And interestingly enough it is a Simon G setting as well. I get a tremendous amount of compliments on it. Love love love the emerald with the little mini rounds around it! Both diamonds are beautiful. You cannot go wrong IMHO. Good luck!

That EC looks really pretty....I think it would look great in that setting. That being said, usually people will prefer one cut over the other, especially when comparing 2 very different shapes such as an emerald vs. a radiant. Does your wife have a preference?? I would let her make the final decision. Dont think you could go wrong with either- its just going to be a matter of personal taste. :))

eta: The EC will also look larger :naughty:

I love the radiant for that setting! So that gets my vote.

Another vote for the radiant in that setting

I too would be another vote for the radiant stone. I think it works best with that setting - IMO

Yes, she likes them both equally and can't pull the trigger so it is left up to me!

1. The Radiant because it is very sparkly, and that's what diamonds are supposed to do - sparkle.
2. The Emerald because it is different and she loves that the clean, clear EC would contrast with the sparkle in the side diamonds (as mentioned above).

I actually have pictures of the setting with a radiant and emerald (not these stones - smaller ones). I will post them tomorrow along with some higher quality photos/videos of the stones I am considering.

Does anyone see an obvious winner just looking at the stone quality? Is it OK to post prices on this board?

Thanks for your opinions - keep them coming!

I like that radiant :)

This...

I agree, with that setting I'd go for the radiant. I think its needs a more modern cut, and a squarer stone. Its also a really super radiant.

You know, I'm surprised, I own a radiant and love it, and thought that the radiant would be nicer in that setting than the emerald, but I really like the emerald in that setting a LOT better. The word that comes to mind is 'sleek.'

But if your wife likes the radiant equally, that's tough. If she wants 'sparkle' then I think the radiant is the way to go, because an emerald cut is going to 'flash' more than sparkle, and will show dirt/oil faster. I have an emerald cut colored stone right hand ring, and I'm always gently 'wiping' the top of it with the cloth I use for my glasses, since it just shows that haze faster than the radiant. I could not clean my radiant for months and it would still sparkle.

I was thinking radiant before I saw the picture and I still say radiant.

Why...when I think of emerald I think of more traditional settings. I find that setting (which I really like) too distracting for
the stepcuts of the emerald. However, the band does not overpower the flash of the radiant. I think the radiant compliments
the band and vice-versa. I feel like the emerald and the band are competing and neither one is getting its fair share of the show.

The radiant is the clear choice for me.

HI:

Radiant because she has never had a diamond ring and just might want the "sparkle" associated with it. The setting is great and suits both stones!

cheers--Sharon

Hi,

The radiant for the sparkle.

Can you see both stones in person somehow so you can make a choice? Honestly, you can't make a choice like this from photos alone! Better yet, can she see them and pick? Her heart might lead her in an unexpected way.

Thanks for posting the photos of each look. I'm still voting for the Radiant! I think the sparkle of the setting suits the radiant better than the step cut emerald in that setting.

Both are lovely - but that's just the look I'd prefer for that setting. I agree w a PP that the emerald, again - just my opinion - would perhaps be better suited to a more classic setting.

Coming back now and seeing the pics, I actually prefer the radiant for that specific setting. What a pretty stone!!!

Thank you all for your opinions - I know I have mine!

I am still trying to get a few nice pictures of the emerald cut. I can bring the diamonds to me (the EC seller wants to put the cost of the diamond on my CC with a refund upon return - the other just wants my CC in case something goes wrong) and will do so with the one I prefer prior to purchase.

Barring anything strange in the EC pics I think I will have that one shipped to me for inspection.

I was going to say radiant for type of light return, but after seeing those pics I like the longer length of the EC in combination with the plain metal swoops on top and bottom on each side... something about the very horizontal setting plus the very vertical stone looks very proportional!

Then again, we can all tell you what we'd pick and none of our opinions matter because none of us know what your SO would prefer ::)
