Hi All!

I'm starting a new thread as I am thinking of a new direction. Here is the old one:

I will from now on only buy toilet paper and wine from Costco!

To recap, I've been looking for a 2 ct d to f vs1 or better Emerald cut diamond. My budget has crept up to 34k. Originally I wanted a cushion cut but the sleek and elegant look of the ec changed my mind. But, just as with the budget changing, I am now considering a cushion.

I've been communicating with several of the top vendors recommended by ps, and though none of them have any ec in house diamonds for me, they have graciously offered to source one or more for me. It appears that I must actually pay for the stone in full before they can examine it? OK this makes me very wary. If I want to get evals of three, I could be carrying 100k on my credit cards. Am I missing something?

As I've looked at their various websites, I see that many have signature cuts of some diamond shapes which go a long way to ensuring that the cut is superb. You convinced me with the last thread that cut is king, so I'm happy to know this exists. I haven't found anyone who specializes in ec's, but two or more have named cushion cuts. From my reading these are indeed very good indicators of sparkle and shine. One vendor suggested that I might like the cushion because it has facets similar to the ec.

I still want a colorless and clear diamond, but now I need a beautifully cut one too. I am willing to compromise on weight. I tried on a cushion an asccher and an Emerald today at the local Tiffany's. Liked them all! If it makes any difference, I want a simple, pretty setting, no halo.

And why aren't there any signature ec's out there?

Should I persevere to get the ec I want (and am I really wrong about there being so few out there?) If I would be just as happy with a cushion, is the supply and quality a better bet and possibly more quickly attained? I know I sound completely clueless (true) so I really appreciate any advice you have for me. Be brutally honest.

That emerald looks like icy heaven. Nice find. I'd halo it in platinum. Wow:

Market forces create the signature lines. The two most popular cuts are rounds and cushions. The enterprising diamond companies serve up and brand signature high-priced lines in those cuts because the customers are there. If marquise cuts become wildly popular again then rest assured there will emerge a Brian Gavin Magnificent Marquise line.

If you want an emerald cut then get that. It is difficult to find an ideal stone since there isn't an ideal cut specs and you can't tell much from dimensions. The one you posted looks good though. It will be more difficult to find an EC diamond but it'll be worth the effort.

My vote would be EC and that diamond looks stunning!

Thanks for everyone's reply.

What makes this a stunning diamond? Are the table and depth good? Are the inclusions going to lessen light performance? Does the black are on the right side indicate something wrong with the facet?

I would love to pull the trigger but I still am so confused!!

This can help.. but the ASET is important.. I'm not one of the experts but I think all the Red is a good thing in the first picture.. not in the second. It sure looks bright and beautiful!

WOW. That emerald looks gorgeous!!! If you do decide you want an emerald and not a cushion, I would absolutely go with that one. Stunning!!

Thank you!

May I ask if Gypsy, Diamondseeker and others could weigh in?

Beautiful stone, lots of red in the ASET and optimal table & depth proportions. Should be a nice EC. If you can you should probably get it and look at it to see if ECs are for you, do the facets go on and off enough, do you like the amount of fire and sparkle overall..... because cushions have a very different scintillation pattern to ECs.
