Hello everyone!

This is my first post! Thank you for having such a great, informative forum

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question: I came across this GIA report (I hope it attaches properly) and was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between an emerald cut and a "cut cornered rectangular step cut." Most of the EC reports that I''ve seen just say "Emerald Cut" in the cut description.

Is it just a different name for the same thing?

Hmm, this is rather interesting. The facet plot looks very much like a plain old EC, 3 steps on top and 3 steps on the bottom.

This type of plot/sketch usually (i am saying usually because sometimes even GIA misses...

) means a type of elongated Asscher kind of look with considerably larger corner breaks vs. its normal/generic Emerald Cut Diamond.

I personally like these shapes much better than small corner breaks which most E/C''s have!!!

that is strange.
good/good sym/polish and e-thin girdle means I wouldnt consider it.
and a J is going to be slightly tinted at that size but not tinted enough to be kewl in my book.

Thank you for your replies!

The vendor is going to send me a photo tomorrow... so I''ll post it when it arrives.

Dia Gem - I think I agree with you - I like the larger corners too

Follow-up question: If I like the shape of the stone and I am a little concerned about the J color in an Emerald cut. If I am working with a vendor are they able to search for other (higher color) stones that have been designated "cut cornered rectangular step cut"?

The cut sounds super interesting; I''d love to get my hands on an EC with large corner breaks. My only concern with this particular stone is the Gd/Gd symm and polish, and the extremely thin girdle.

DiaGem - I absolutely love how that cut looks! Is this from a gallery of images somewhere online? I would love to see some other cuts up close like this.

FWIW, my sister has a more "traditional" EC and this, to me, is more interesting, but then again I am starting to favor Asscher cuts at the moment and that's more what this looks like to me.

Does anyone know if this cut would have any sparkle to it? It almost looks like it might.

A different angle on that ccrsc....

Wow! Great image, DiaGem! Thanks!

For an honest opinion..., you will need to post some more images..., and then again its not as seeing it ''live''.
