I am looking at buying an engagement ring for my girlfriend and she wants an emerald cut. I am looking at this ring:
Carat weight: 1.04
Cut: Very Good
Color: F
Clarity: VS1
Depth %: 67.7%
Table %: 66%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Medium to Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.01 x 4.94 x 3.34 mm
Length/width ratio:1.42

My budget is about $5,500 for the diamond itself and this diamond is very close to that. Can anyone give me feedback on this. I have researched as much as i can online and think this is a pretty good diamond for the price and just wanted others feedback. Thanks in advance

do you have any pictures?

No...Blue Nile. But i am waiting for them to send me the crown and pavilion angles as well as the crown height % to get a better idea of the diamond. Just wanted to know if by those measurments the diamond should be a quality diamond.

you really can't tell by measurements for fancies. BN has a good return policy, so you could get it shipped out to you and see if you like it before it is set? Otherwise maybe consider a vendor who provides pictures/videos?

I agree with SLG, take a peek at some vendors who provide images at least - unlike rounds its much harder to tell a good fancy from the numbers. JA, ERD and GOG are probably good spots to start (from what ive read here) and they should be competitive with BN on pricing...

Good luck with your search =)

The numbers actually look good...This stone is going to be a longer EC rather than a shorter fatter one. Is that ok with her? If she wants the classic EC shape, then this will do the trick. ;))

Thanks, i will check those other sites out...already looked at GOG and Whiteflash...will check out the others as well. May have to just buy it and look at it and determine if its up to my preferences and if not return it within 30 days.

Yes, she actually wants a longer one since her fingers are also long. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the link...does anyone have any other tips for buying an emerald cut diamond engagement ring or have any thoughts on the measurments on the one i am looking at above? I know pics or seeing it is the ultimate test.

You just can't tell by the numbers with fancy cuts. From the specs on this 1.04, I find the table is a smudge too big, depth is abit deep but is still okay! (Deeper depth = smaller stone) Try to find an ec with a table % of 60-65 and a depth of 60-66% with table % smaller than depth %. It will then have the potential of having a higher crown height (high CH = sparkle).

Thanks for the tips...this is exactly what i was looking for. In this diamond i thought this diamond looked pretty good, but i knew it wasn't the best. I am waiting for the crown height percentage from blue nile as i type this.

Here are the measurements for the other emerald i am also looking at...can anyone give me a feedback compared to the one i posted earlier? Thanks! :D
Carat weight: 1.09
Cut: Very Good
Color: F
Clarity: VVS2
Depth %: 66.3%
Table %: 64%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.83 x 5.08 x 3.37 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.34

By the numbers, it sounds good!. Can you get info on the CH?

waiting on that right now...

The crown height for the first diamond i listed is 12.7%. That seems very good right?

Yay, that seems promising! Are you doing an in person viewing? Can your vendor provides ID and ASET images? That would be the next step to go, having images to back up your decision making.

The crown height on this diamond is 13%...think this is a very nice diamond. Any comments or concerns?

^That sounds even better! Can your vendor provides actual pic of diamond, Idealscope and aset images?
