I am going to look at engagement rings this weekend and I was wondering what a 1 carat center emerald cut diamond with 2 .5ct emerald cuts on the side would cost. Also, I was wondering about Asschers. A 1 carat Asscher solitare. How much can they cost??? I want to walk in with some knowledge of what I am looking at. I don''t want to walk in and look at something I like and then realize that is way out of our budget. Thanks your help!

It really depends on those founr strange terms; color, clarity, cut and carats! You've got one down (carat) - which approximates size - with cut relaly deciding size. Three more to go

You might find the tutorial here and color and clarity interesting and the nore on "fancy shapes" too...

I would suppose that "white & clean & sparkly" would translate into "G/H - VS2/SI1 - good cut" or better. And you might want to inspect the notes on the AGA cut charts and the "Ideal Scope" for an explanations of what "good cut" means.

Once all specs are more or less pinned down (or a range for each) price would emmerge too

How about a ring like this:

Center: Emerald Cut. .87ct, G, VS1
Sides: Emerald Cut. .25ct ea. G-H, VS2
Platinum setting

or

Center: Asscher .87Ct-1.0, G/H, VS1
Platinum setting

I second what Valeria said. Read the tutorial, then go to the homepage of Pricescope and plug in some parameters. It will give you an idea of the range of Internet prices. If you buy locally, you might be paying somewhat more. Settings, of course, can vary from a few hundred to a few thousand.
