I am in the market for an emerald cut diamond to replace my current center stone for my 15th wedding anniversary present. I have been looking at .75 ctwt to 1.25 ctwt. I started out looking for VVS1 at least G color. My present stone is G color VVS1 .43ctwt.( Which I will remount into a necklace probably)
So during this process I have done some research and have read alot of these forums to educate myself. I have been told and have seen here that I should lower my standards on clarity and go higher in color and go down to VS1/VS2 for clarity. I would be able to buy a bigger diamond that way.
Do you agree?
(I will be mounting it in a yellow gold setting with emeralds on each side.)

Are there any online diamond vendors who specialize in emerald cut diamonds or perhaps are known for really nice looking ones ??

Thanks
Helen

I think you're right that many people on this forum would go down a little on clarity in favor of a better cut, color, and size--BUT you are looking at an emerald cut so that may be a different story.

I don't know a ton about ECs, but it is my understanding that it is much easier to see inclusions in that type of stone (because it is a step cut), so you may have to go higher than normal in clarity.

I'm sure someone who is better acquainted with ECs than I am will post with more details.

Just look at the GIA cert and esp. the comment. There must be one more lucky find like this with higher color grade and the cut you want.

Maybe THIS, for example? There are more of the kind where this one comes from, of course.

It is just too bad that not many sellers present pictures of the diamonds they list. Well, or no prices! Of the two versions, I do prefer the pictures & no price though - it seems to be more straight forward to ask about this tha the pics which may turn out good or not so good afterwards. If you do want to see the choice of stones, I just know four shops that list Ecs with actual pictures: Good Old Gold, Niceice, Stuller (LINK) and Diamonds by Lauren (sometimes has Ecs in stock). The list at Stuller is by far the largest and definitely a good crossection of cut styles, the others present a few choice pieces.

Hope this helps
