When purchasing an emerald cut stone, do you think color or clarity are more important? For instance, if you had a choice between a SI, Color F or a VSI1, Color H, which would you choose and why?

I'm looking at carat sizes between .75 and 1.00, if that makes a difference. Anything else I should know? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Irish3,

.

Many people go for higher color as long as they cannot see inclusions with unaided eye. However, it is easier to spot inclusions in Emerald shape stones.

You might want to have a look at SI1 and VS1-2 clarity emeralds to find out whether you can see the inclusions.[/u]

Thanks, Leonid! I passed along the advice found in this forum to my future son-in-law. He went with a .73 carat, Color D, VS1, emerald cut stone.

Appreciate your input!
