Elongated Acc from tianyu & starsgem - pattern & culet size?

Hi,

I am looking for an elongated antique cushion cut moissanite. Tianyu offers different culet sizes & shapes(round and elongated culets), and starsgem seems to offer only 1 size. Which do you prefer? Does culet size have anything to do with light performance?

Based on instagram videos and photos, I am leaning towards starsgem more - has anyone ordered from this place?

I have ordered from both and I just added this same pic (below) and some additional info to the thread labeled ‘French Cuts”. Both companies will cut a stone any way you want with any culet size you want. They do also have stock stones and you can ask what the ratios are and they can let you know.

They do seem to be quite knowledgeable and will help you through the process if you are unsure. I can suggest sending them lots of pictures of exactly what you like when it comes to stones and/or ring designs. They don’t always list all their stones on Alibaba or ebay but just ask them and I am sure they can accommodate. DEF’s are colorless and the G/H shows a little more warmth but still faces up pretty white. You can go down to J/K if you are looking for a warm stone like the one you posted below. That was just purchased recently by a bee from SG. When you go down to the lower grades, you have to be more specific about the undertones. Some lean towards a champagne, warm brown, yellow or even green.

This picture below has my 2 carat H diamond halo, in the middle is a Meghan ring dup that is an 8.5 ACC in white & yellow gold and the top is a 10 x 8 elongated ACC in platinum with baguettes (both from SG). The second picture is of a 10 mm OEC stone I just had cut from Tianyu. They are making a solitaire ring for me in 18K & palladium with some pave sides and a French cut ring that matches mrsgreeneyes eternity band that you can see on the Tianyu thread.

At Starsgem, you can contact Cherry Zheng at [email protected] and at Tianyu you can contact Ella at [email protected]. Both of them are very helpful. You just need to be very specific about what you are asking for and patient with the process due to language and time differences.

They did a really good job with the cut. Here is a video of it. I am just waiting for it to get set in a ring.

I didn't specify anything when I ordered from Tianyu. Just said I wanted an 8x7mm ACC in a FG color. On my invoice it just says 5%. It's round. You really don't notice it wearing it. I love the facets and the way it sparkles. It's really personal taste. I prefer the way mine is cut so I'm glad I got this one lol.

You can use WhatsApp or up just email her. I am not sure who Jocie is on Tianyu’s contact details but it is either Ella or Emily that will answer. You can send an email to Ella at [email protected]. I think it is a good idea to get 2 quotes for comparison. Look forward to some updates....

I’m trying to decide between 7x8 or 7x6 on a size 4 finger (Tianyu). I asked my husband and he didn’t have an opinion. I prefer smaller I think as I’m more of a small stone gal. Thoughts? I own a .5 carat round diamond and a 7 mm round moissanite in a solitaire with baguettes. The cushion will go into a simple YG solitaire.

I like the 8x7 more, but I also have much larger fingers (size 7.5). Why not go in between with 7.5x6.5? I struggled with sizes too and it dawned on me that I don’t have to stick with stock sizes. They can custom cut anything.

That was me! It was like a light bulb. Why am I stressing over this when I can just go in between???

And I got quoted a 7.75 and 5.75mm round so I’m sure they can. They just have to advise of a +/- variance of I think .03mm

Thank you for your kind words...I have always loved the Meghan ring. There are even more options now then when I did it. SG could only do white and yellow gold together, but now you can actually have a platinum head with yellow gold shank. I would go with 14k for a softer look. If I could go back and do it now, I would have also opted for lab diamond side stones as they really aren’t too expensive in a 4 mm size.

So regarding the antique cushion. I think I prefer the look that is a combination of both. I. All it a chubby cushion so it is 9x8 instead of 8x10 or 7x8 instead of 7x9. I just did the ring for my SIL in platinum and she wanted the square antique cushion with the pinwheel culet. It is very nice but I don’t think it has as much life as the version with the Maltese cross. I am not sure how big you want to go but cushions face up slightly smaller than a round.

First 2 pic’s have the pinwheel culet and the second two have the cross.




SG will cut it either way depending on your preference. There is even a rounded cushion ‘wonky’ cut that Harro is doing that they could replicate. The original Meghan ring is a brilliant cut which is ok, but in moissanite, it can be a bit more splintery in that look. Not so bad for a smaller stone but more obvious in the larger sizes. Hope that helps....

That’s a tough one sometimes. I definitely feel that there are ones that look better than other’s. The antique cushion is really an exception. I also think that putting a moissanite in settings that have diamonds or lab diamonds also makes it look more realistic. I don’t get too stuck on ‘mind’ clean because I have a diamond wedding set that I can always fall back. I am not too big on CZ myself. The Chinese moissanites are cheap enough that it is not a huge investment and if you don’t ‘love’ it, then they are not too hard to sell on Loupe Troupe, ebay or Diamond Bistro.
