It's for sale. You can buy the whole set, for all the auctions, or just the Jewelry I & II sales. Anyone getting it? :naughty:

http://www.christies.com/elizabethtaylor/catalogues.aspx

I think the colored stone photos are probably worth the price for the jewelry catalogue ($150 + S&H). :cheeky:

That would be amazing. Her jewelry and film memorabilia must be out of this world. I would stare at every thing and think "Elizabeth Taylor owned this. Elizabeth Taylor held this in her hand" all google-y eyed.

I truly love Elizabeth Taylor! I used to watch her films with my Gma back in the day, she was awesome. I will have to get one of these catalogs! Trust me though, if she were my mother I wouldn't be selling some of these items, they are so sentimental. Does anyone know if there isn't enough money to pay taxes or something?

Hi, no, actually she left a huge estate of which the jewels are a chunk but only a fraction of the value. I can't remember but something like 1/5 or 1/6? Her family (about whom I know very little really) isn't burdened with a huge estate tax (they've been lowered in recent years in the US). I don't know why they're selling or what they're not selling, but it's not a case of them needing money. I feel sure this is a deliberate decision and that they didn't feel forced in any way. I mean we're talking about a lot of money.

A portion of the proceeds is also going to go to the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation as well.

I just got my two volume catalogues, and the photos literally put the book, "Elizabeh Taylor - My Love Affair with Jewelry" to shame. OMG OMG OMG!!!! Get it if you can, because it's well worth the price if you are a gemstone and jewelry afficionado!! :cheeky:  :cheeky:

Gorgeous, detailed and breathtaking photos.

I also wanted to mention that the photos are so detailed, I can see micro pitting and very tiny facet abrasion on some of her gems, not that I mind!! :cheeky:

Has anyone seen the $39 gallery catalog? Is it worth buying? I don't want to spend a lot of money ($300 for the set), and I want to see everything.

OK, you convinced me, TL. I just sprung for the entire set. When I consider how much I have enjoyed her "Love Affair with Jewelry" book, which is unfortunately now falling apart, I decided I would get enough enjoyment from the set to make it worth the price.

I think I've noticed a chip on one of the emeralds, a prominent stone On the necklace (iPhone).

Also on the ET Diamond (whenever I mention this at PS crickets, shouldn't the buyer be aware of this if it's true? Is it descibed in the catalog?).

I need to buy the recently edited variorum edition of Emily Dickinson's poems, 3 hardcover set, $120 last I checked. It's first in my "book" budget, and I need to put money into my jewelry fund, but I wish I could have the
Elizabeth Taylor catalogs.

But yeah my guess was the catalogs would put the book to shame.

Also, the catalogues have all of her jewels, and "Love Affair" only has some, and the color prints are not quite as good as the catalogue. There's also a lot of information, in writing, on the jewels, copies of the AGL reports with some of the premier ones, and a whole historical section about the La Peregrina pearl. Even the reclusive JAR writes a little bit on some earrings he made for her.

I bought the Gallery Guide and the A-Z Souvenir Publication (basically the two cheapest ones)!

The Gallery Guide is ok but the images are small but there are literally pages and pages and pages of jewellery, bags, shoes, kaftans and a multitude of other things. It's actually amazing looking at her entire collection.

I do like the Souvenir Publication because it has nice size pictures and explanations about when she bought or was given some of the things.

The nice thing about "Love Affair" is that the photos of the jewelry, unless marked "detail" or "enlarged", are reproduced actual size. It is neat to put your hand next to her rings to "try them on". And, that Peregrina is one nice big pearl!

Sounds like the photos in the catalog show a lot of detail. How do they indicate the size of the piece?

I would like to get this set, too. Are all the photos of the jewelry in color? I would think so, but I want to make sure before ordering. I expect to have an out-of-body experience :appl:

Yes, they are all in splendid color. It's almost too much color!! Your head will explode. The dimensions are mentioned next to the piece in a small section. Christopher Smith, gemologist, and the head of AGL, has also included written documentation on exceptional pieces, like the ruby ring, the emerald ring, etc. . . That is also included.
