hello everyone.

i've been reading unfavorable results with respect to certificates
from EGL. however particular EGL-USA reports are "reputable" in comparison
to GIA/AGS. then furthermore, some claim EGL-USA certificates based on
LA labs are better than NY labs.. and vice veras. it is so difficult
what to believe!

anyway, my question is... anyone have experience with EGL-USA reports
from a Canada lab? (vancouver or toronto?)... are they accurate??

Datachump,

The preference for EGL-LA is mostly old news. The LA lab used to be operated by a different company entirely and they enjoyed a very good reputation. There was a messy court battle that resulted in EGL-USA taking over the operations in LA and the other company is now running PGS in Chicago (which is a good lab by the way). I''ve found EGL-USA to be pretty consistent across their several labs, including the ones in Canada. I don''t think it matters which location graded your stones. The merits of EGL-USA are discussed at length in dozens of threads in this forum and can be viewed by searching for ''EGL'' and ''EGL-USA'' in the box near the upper right of this page.

i dont mean to beat the old bush with this "EGL vs EGL-USA" issue. i guess i just need some assurance that the actual stone i bought, is pretty much what i *thought* i bought...

my certificate is EGL-USA, the report number starts with "CA" (as opposed to US), and i actually called EGLUSA to see which lab it was graded in and they forwarded me the vancouver lab.

the report claims it is an E colour, VVS1, "egs ideal plus" with a comment "hearts and arrows ideal".

should i go the length and have this verified from another lab? or is EGL-USA sufficient?

woops
sorry, i meant EGL-USA. (typo)

i guess this topic is over-discussed heh heh..
