Hey every one!! I have a question for you all. How reliable is the EGL in their grading? I know that the AGS and GIA are the big 2, but what do you all think of the EGL

we did our small survey a while back. EGL USA considered stricter than EGL oversees however it might change with time. The trade values EGL graded diamonds some 10%-15% less than diamonds with the same grades from GIA.

Each diamond is individual and you may get a good deal with EGL and vice versa.

Also, some believe that softness/strictness of some labs can depend on particular carat, color, and clarity. So without dismissing EGL graded stones it might be worth consulting with independent expert and compare prices for the same stones with GIA certs.

One other finding of our small study was that in spite of differences some people got better value for their dollars with EGL. It was sort of an unexpected effect caused by the discount on EGL stones being greater than GIA or AGS. When the EGL report is right on the mark for grading, the diamond is less pricey than with other reports. The problem is that grading accuracy is somewhat a random event.
