Hey everyone,

Just thought i`d mention what my EGL-USA diamond was independently appraised for:

So i purchased an EGL USA RB 2Ct F SI1 ideal plus cut eye clean stone.

Got it independently appraised as G color and an SI2 eye clean (depending on your definition of eye clean) AGS excellent cut (not ideal)

Off by one color, clarity, and cut grade.

In all fairness, the person that sold me the diamond told me that if GIA were to grade the diamond that they would grade it a G color SI2 clarity.

Conclusion: My sample size of 1 study confirms that EGL USA upgrades both color and clarity by a factor of one (and even a cut grade off).

Just thought i`d let any potential EGL USA diamond purchasers know.

I think that somethine to consider is- we also- in all cases rely on a person to grade these stones, and I think that when you rely on a person to determine cut- color- clarity- you may see fluctuation in results as everyone may see things different. does that make sense?

But I do agree- egl usa in general tens to be more lenient.

Is the stone loose or mounted?

For AGS cut grade, that is probably based off proportion cut grade of pre 2005 or the gold report cut grade system. AGS performance cut grade would require the AGS software and simulation of the exact proportion of the stone.

It`s a loose stone.

Agreed... the cut was based only on the diamond`s sarin measurements so it`s not based on current AGS cut standards.

Out of interest... another stone i was interested in was an EGL International stone (2Ct F SI1)... vendor told me it was likely an I color SI2 stone.

I didn`t get that stone independently appraised... but interesting that the EGL International stone was 3 color grades off and one clarity grade off.

Egl is very lenient. I have seen egl stones, filled with eye visible carbon, as an si2.

Egl is usually a grade higher then reality.

EGL USA is the one of the better labs of EGL. Different location has different standards apparently with EGL Israel one of the worst offender.
