I am just curious and for educational purpose, the following pic has 2 different drop patterns (I hope its the right terminology). My question to you experts is how would the pavillion graphics will look like in a GIA cert? Which one will have a 3-pavillion facet and which one has 4-pavillion facet?

to much obstruction in the photo to tell anything about them.

Karl,

Is that why there almost looks like a dark bowtie in the center? I''m wondering for my own purposes because I got a pic from my vendor of my stone unset where the middle of the stone, not just the center looks dark but it never looks like that in person. I could never figure out why the pic looked like this.

obstruction, the bright areas in the center draw light from above and if you get obstruction into the angle zone that is normally red in ASET they look like that.

Thank you!

If you really want to make yours look that way, stand in front of a darkish wall and hold the diamond a couple inches from your eye in a room with fairly low lighting.

Hi Strmrdr

My question to you is how would the patterns of the 2 stones look like in graphic in a GIA cert? Its a 4-pvaillion facet or a 3-pavillion facet grahic?

Well, I don''t really want it to look that way I was just wondering why I have pic of my diamond that looks like that. I know its silly but for a while I wondered if there was something wrong with my stone. I don''t think you commented on my threads when we were looking for a stone so I guess part of me wondered if there was something you wouldn''t aprove of. At this point the stone has been set and on my finger for 5 months so there is no point now but I still wondered...

cant tell by the pics and face up the 2 designs can look identical so even with good face up pictures it might not be possible to tell.
3 or 4 step pavilion doesn''t matter much, face up appearance does.

no clue why I didn''t comment it might have been during one of my busy work times.
I am not shy about saying if I don''t like a diamond for some reason.
By the looks of your aviator you did well :}
