What were your original plans for the Easter long weekend, and what are your plans now during lockdown?

I had planned to spend the weekend in a B&B near a beach so that my dog and I could walk on the beach without restrictions.

With lockdown, I shall have a BBQ or two in my own back garden, now that it has been partially cleared and a lot less like a jungle, my first BBQs since around 2012/3.

New grill in stainless steel ordered along with a tool holder as the old ones have rusted beyond salvage.

Also ordered a reclining chair that I had planned to get for camping use a couple of years ago, so that I could sit in the shade under a pram brolly that I already purchased ahead of the chair, as the weather is supposed to be very nice in UK over the Easter weekend.

How about you?

DK :))

No previous plans, so nothing spoiled for us. We’ll be staying in, and keeping safe and healthy.

We probably would have gone to see my parents or they come to us. They are about 2.5 hours away.

Now, probably nothing. We usually just do brunch or lunch at a restaurant together.

We were planning on spending Passover (this coming Wednesday) with my parents, sister and her dh and their kids and my aunt and uncle. That is it for our small family. I am sad because the last time we were all together was June 2019. Just praying we can all be together during happier and safer times.

And we were planning on spending Easter with my MIL who lives in an assisted living place. We last saw her this past summer as well.

Our last get together with my dh's family this past July

Though this will be a somewhat sad holiday if we can just make it through this there will be better happier and safer times ahead that we can enjoy with our loved ones. Spending it apart this year so we can all spend it together next.

Sending you all well wishes and gentle hugs. Stay safe. XO.

We usually join an Easter egg hunt. This year I bought some pre-filled eggs and we will have a one kid egg hunt.

I'll make dinner for my husband and I and leave some on the porch for our son to pick up. Will watch mass on streamed tv - I am sad that we aren't able to to Stations of the Cross - we are Catholic and worship heavily during this time. I continue to pray for the world and our country, I am sad for so many that have lost their jobs and are sick and have family members who are sick. We're trying to help all that we can. God Bless to all.

Before we were going to spend Easter at the cousins, all the little kids have an Easter egg hunt.

Now we are staying home and having lamb (Purchased from Aldi yesterday). Maybe we will have special dessert from one of the bakeries, if not then I got a Jamaican rum cake and tiramisu cake from...you guessed it, Aldi!

We will have a hunt for our two kids outside and they will watch "The Easter Beagle". We already bought everything for their baskets so that is all set thankfully. We were determined the kids would have as normal an Easter as possible. Our youngest son in particular really gets excited for Easter.

We went out for dinner last year. This year we'll do nothing. I think Florida is due to peak in 7-10 days? So we might order at our now favorite local place if they're open. They do amazing next level social distancing, and its been appreciated. They also have an uptick in traffic due to it, so they had to restrict how many cars they service to keep people from milling about.

Will give them lots of business after this is all over.

Easter is traditionally the start of the camping season, and I had camped in a tent every Easter since I started camping on my own in 2009 except for 2019 when I did not go camping at all.

The camp sites were quieter during Easter as it was too early and cold for the less hardy folks, especially in tents.

I have had the misfortune of being close to an unit of grandparents with their grandchildren who liked to bang their Easter egg hunting buckets early in the morning one year. :roll2:

I miss camping.

We were supposed to be fully booked for the school holidays and easter: three of my best friends were supposed to come with their children before Easter and my mom, sister, niece and BiL were supposed to stay for Easter.
Very very sad that we won't get to see each other. I haven't seen my sister and mom since October now, since they were on Christmas already...

We'll still have the egg hunt, lamb, lots of cakes, home made brioche etc for the kids.
I usually host DH s family on Easter Monday, so that's one big (20 ppl) party less.

HI:

I hope to see a bunny hopping down the street.

Other than that, no fun (out of town) family dinners. No bad jokes nor too much food and wine. No taxis or ubers to keep the economy going. No dozen eggs to make babka (use yolks) and angel food cake (use the whites); cuz there is little blessed flour and eggs. And yeast. WTH.

That said, no gossiping either!

cheers--Sharon

I feel sad for people who cannot do their usual religious thing -
But im sure God understands
and hopefully if we all stay healthy next year we can all be together
As much as i love easter eggs i despise the over the top commercialism of Easter (and Christmas) - and im not a church goer
@missy may i ask a question ? Do Jewish holidays get commercialized ?

This may be the first year ive never had an easter egg
However easter egg sales have i think so far have been rather slow this year, with toilet paper, hand sanatizer and now flour struggling to keep up with demand
we have 4 hot cross buns langushing in the freezer though so that's Good Friday breakfast
Easter has really snuck up on me this year, its still warm and not a lot of Autumn colour around yet

Missing easter eggs but It does help how much i hate Cadbury after they kept changing the recepies over recent years serving us up vile imported chocolate - my pallet grew up with chocolate made from sugar cane, no additives to stop it melting, no vile and immoral palm oil and made from real liquid fresh (from the cows of the Otago peninsula) milk - these all effect taste
and then the American owners closed the Dunedin factory
so im still pretty livid with Cadbury
they even tried to dish up our beloved marshmallow eggs as halfs c/o Australia - even little kiddies know a marshmallow easter egg is egg shaped not half an egg
if i can squeeze a few dollars out of the budget i might buy some NZ made marshmellow eggs because they are made in Oamaru and they are a whole egg shape, not made goodness know's where from ingediants i don't like the taste off

sorry for the rant
i might make some good old fashoned chocolate fudge from the 1976 Edmonds cook book
....ill have to get some more milk
