That''s when we''re looking to buy (woohoo!

) and I think I heard that here at some point. Obviously it''s after the winter/holiday rush, might I have a better chance of finding what I want then? What about prices, do they fluctuate with the season?

TIA for any help.

If you are buying online, or from the B&M stores with an online presence, no, you will not see any fluctuation in diamond pricing or availability throughout the year.

Diamond prices don''t really fluctuate with the seasons and supply is pretty constant throughout the year, although they do tend to inch up a little bit as the holiday season approaches. I suppose that the "party line" would be "anytime is a good time to buy a diamond." I think that the time to buy is when you run across the diamond with the characteristics that you prefer, because it''s not always easy to find exactly what you may be looking for simply due to the fact that the cartels tend to limit their release in order to maintain prices.

I think that it''s really great that you are taking the time, well in advance of when you intend to make your purchase, to learn more about diamonds! The time you spend researching and fine tuning your preferences will help to ensure that you purchase a diamond which is everything that you want it to be and not just what somebody has in-stock and which you have to take because you''re in a hurry.

I am not sure how accurate this is but once I was told by my local jeweler that after Christmas time, Spring and Summer when they sell most of their diamonds, I guess a lot of people get engaged then. So he said that not really the diamond prices fluctuate but the availability changes. I am sure it''s varies with different jewelry stores but online stores should keep a pretty good diamond inventory at all times.

Good thing is when you start shopping early so you can take your time and compare.

Good luck!

By all means am I NOt an expert..but I do alot of research on prices.

In my recent research, I have found numerous articles talking about prices heading lower due to economic reasons here in the states. In fact, in the article i found they suggested that this past X mas saw lower prices due to this very reason and under the current economic issues they were stating prices could head lower.

regards,

Matt

PS-However....back in the late 70''s partially due to inflation a diamond 1 ct,D in color, excellent in cut and F in clarity was in excess of 20k,,,even though the article stated they were not able to find a dealer who sold at that price
