Hi,

We purchased a 1.8 carat FIC RB and we are looking for a e-ring setting.

I hope this isn''t a stupid question - but I will ask anyway... is there a setting preference for FIC (firey ideal cut)? I thought there might be due to the cut (the small table, steep crown and shallow pavillion) and the ''romantic look'' of the diamond.

Any ideas? - Thanks!

Congrats on your informed and well educated purchase!

I don't think there's a particular setting preference for FIC diamonds. Maybe, the 'romantic' look of the diamond could be enhaced by an antique-style setting?

Or something EXTREMELY simple and modern like a tension setting? I guess it's up to you, since you're gonna wear it forever (unless you upgrade

)... Me, I would put it ina very modern and dainty setting, in order to contrast with the 'unusual' proportions of your beautiful diamond... May I ask you some specs on the stone?

Hi - Thanks for the response - great ideas - I like the 'simple' idea. The specs of the stone are below.

1.85 carat H/vs2 7.83-7.87X4.92mm
table: 54% depth: 62.7%
crown angle: 35.6
pavillion angle:40.2
Girdle: med to slthick, faceted
culet: none Polish/Symetry: Excellent

This stone came out a "1" in the HCA - FIC. I haven't actually seen the diamond yet - my boyfriend wants to find a setting first.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Exactly what I was envisioning. The VS 2 clarity is suitable for tension settings.

I would use platinum/white gold and possibly matte.

Glad that you like the measurements of the stone. I like simple but not sure if I like the modern look - I am sort of conservative. What about a simple four prong - you can probably still see much of the diamond? I love the simplicity of Cartier four prong setting (low setting) but I can not find a good replica. I agree with you that I don't want to hide the diamond and I do not want any side stones.

Thanks.

We have more or less the same tastes!

Cartier setting is very beautiful, dainty and sleek. I am sorry, but I am not aware of a good replica at the moment.

Otherwise, if you are 'conservative', I bet you'd love a Tiffany-style setting. The very best and closest replicas can be purchased at www.niceice.com or at www.superbcert.com. You can do a search... Many posters have purchased one and seem to be extremely happy with their choice.

I have the Fine Line Solitaire by Le which is a pretty close copy. I really like the setting because it is very classic, but not as ubiquitous as the Tiffany-style ring. As far as I know, only Whiteflash carries it. Josh (Colored Gemstone Nut) posted some pictures for me under this thread:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/does-anyone-own-a-ring-design-by-le.6917/

If the link doesn't work, the title of the thread is "does anyone own a ring design by LE?" and it should be on the next page.

Good luck finding a setting!

I followed the link and looked at the pictures - its a beautiful setting - the ring is goregeous. I also looked at niceice.com - wow - the knife edge is beautiful - your right, its the best replicia I've seen. Decisions...

Thanks to both of you for these great ideas.

Actually I would put a FIC into an old style 1920's ring. Something with a bead set shank, very thin band and a low diamond filigree basket head. Still simple but so classic IMO. I love those old styles and the FIC style stone would look smashing. Esp with that size stone.

Congrats, sounds like a lovely diamond!

Mara, Do have a picture of what you are suggesting or know where I can see some settings? I found antiqueengagementrings.com.

I was about to suggest that site. I got a setting exactly like Mara describes from them and am very happy with it.

I have an FIC as well

Mara, when I saw THIS ring today I could not help thinking of your description ! Is it anything like you have in mind?

Oh yes Valeria, that is beautttiffulll.

I love the old settings. Beautiful filigree basket heads...sometimes the work is so amazing. Fay Cullen has alot of the similar settings. Or a local antique or estate jewelry store would have some as well most likely.

This is a beautiful setting:

I love the color of that thing! Anything a bit deeper and it'll probably be right here hanging on my finger by now

I am however decided to stick with my "2004 resolution"...
