Let's talk covers! I got my Kindle recently (absolutely adore it!!!) and I want to get a cover. I want something that zips open and probably leather. What have you got? What are the pros and cons??

btw- I considered a Kindle for a long while. I love books so much I didn't want to give them up. I must say, after 10 minutes of reading, the "device" disappears and you're just in your book. I'm surprised at how little it affected my pleasure. So, if you're still wrestling with the idea because of how much you love your books, fear not friends. The Kindle is definitely worth it!

I'd love to have one from Oberon Design but would feel guilty spending the money so instead I bought a soft-shell cover at Walmart for $20. Works like a charm though. I've taken it on plane trips where it was shoved into tiny spaces and it does protect the Kindle.

I have the Amazon cover in green (no light). It doesn't zip, but it does have a band that keeps it closed when you're not using it.

I actually really like it. The leather is harder and not as luxurious as my Cole Haan cover for my Kindle 2, but it offers a nice book-like structure, the cover is still nice quality, and the band keeps it shut but you can fold it over the other way to keep it out of your way when you read. Plus lots of fun colors!

Do you think a soft shell offers as much protection for the screen as a hard shell or is it even a concern? Do you end up disrobing the Kindle to read comfortably?

I think as long as the screen is covered when you're not using it, it'll be fine. My Kindle 2 cover didn't have a zip or band or anything - it was just a flap-style cover - and my screen was totally fine two years later. The hard cover might provide more protection if you're prone to dropping things easily, or if you have a lot of stuff in your bag and you tend to toss the Kindle in there you know?

I don't take the Kindle out unless I'm reading at a table and I want it flat on it. My old cover would lay flat - the new one doesn't (but that's mostly because I haven't bent the binding enough - I'm weird). But otherwise I keep the cover on the rest of the time.
