Hello,

I''m hoping that someone can answer a couple of questions about the dvatche platinum half pave setting for me. I have not seen this setting in person, so any info. would be appreciated.

I''m seriously considering a 2.5ct round and would like to set it as low-set as possible. My husband has informed me that this ring will have to satisfy me for a very, very long time, so I want to get it right. So, here''s my questions:

1. Is this setting a high setting? I can''t tell from
pictures I have seen. If it''s a high setting, it''s
back to the drawing board for me.

2. Is this a lightweight setting? I like a thin band,
but I also want to feel some heft on my hand.

3. Do you know if the pave is secure in this ring?

Any comments or info. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm also looking to have my engagment ring as low-set as possible, and one thing I was told is that diamonds can be set higher or lower in the same setting, just depending on how it's set, so if you want low-set, make very sure to request low-set.

(I haven't seen the setting in person, so I can't really help you on that one, but it looks low set from those pictures...)

Thanks, chialea! Do you know if it's possible to get a six-prong head instead of a four-prong?

It's funny how strong my curiosity becomes after hours. I meant to call a vendor all day long to ask these questions, but I procrastinated until they were already closed. Sometimes it's hard to wait until tomorrow morning!

Vatche will do custom work, so I'm sure you can get any head you'd like. Also, I believe Vatche offers a lifetime guarantee, so you won't have to worry about the pave being secure--it's going to be amazing workmanship. I think it's a beautiful setting, and one I'd get if I was choosing a round stone

Unless the head or basket of the mounting is actually within the shank and not above it, it is not going to be low-set. And, with a 2.5 carat stone, you are talking about more depth than on a stone of a carat or less. Even if you set the stone as low as it can go, you can only go so far as the mounting itself is on top of the shank. Also, I don't know how comfortable that pave mounting is going to be -- you would most definitely need to try it on and see how it feels on the inside.
You don't want to make a mistale, so learn from mine -- this is not low set.

Hmm... to me, at least, it looks like the band comes up to the sides of the basket, so the basket's not on top. It's hard to see from those pictures, but I certainly would't dismiss the setting out of hand, even with my obsession with getting the stone as low as possible.

I'm just offering my experience; everyone needs to do what works best for them.

Thank you all very much! I'm still in the information-gathering stage at this point, and I appreciate all your comments.

One last request: If anyone comes across more pictures of this setting, can you post them? Thanks!

Oh my goodness! I just searched "dvatche" on ebay, and this link shows exactly the type of pictures I'm looking for:

Edited to add that this is the full pave setting, but this picture gives me an idea of the head of the half-pave.

Hey! Ebay comes in useful for something after all!

Looking at those pictures, I'm not as worried about low-set as about 1. the diamond being "sticky-uppy" and possibly getting caught on things if you're like I am ith your hands and 2. the pave ripping up your side fingers (I remember vatche pave being particularly pointy).

I think you really, really need to go and try this on before you buy it, since it's almost certainly not returnable later, but it may well be right up your alley -- you just want to be sure.

Thanks, chialea. I was thinking the same thing about the pave. The prongs definitely look "bumpy."

Right now, I'm thinking that my best bet would be to go to Mark Morrell for my setting. He has a picture on his website of an extremely low-set ring that I have loved for quite a while now. Since this ring will be our last major jewelry purchase (at least for a long, long time

), I want to do it right.

actually, I think it does look pretty low despite it not being "sunken" in to a setting with a lot of air space like . eventhough it sits right on top of the shank

It certainly looks sunken right into the band (about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the admittedly thin band), especially on the ebay pictures. look at how the band is joined to the basket on the sides... maybe the pave is just there.

MrsJam: Mark Morell certainly does wonderful work. Be prepared for a wait, people have said he's busy, but be sure to post pictures!

When I say "sunken in" I am really ref'g to a cathedral type setting, where the shank comes up to meet the stone...with all of thar air space...so while that type of cathedral setting LOOKS like the stone is set low....and this setting looks like the stone is sitting on top, this was is, in reality, probably lower...
