Please send some dust my way.
It''s taken me this long to be able to talk about it without breaking down.
Last Friday, I let my dogs out in the backyard after work. I heard both them begin barking and carrying on, but then, I heard a yelp. Ugh. I knew something terrible was up when I heard that sound! I ran outside, and another dog (at least part pit bull) had grabbed a hold of my little Lhasa, Maddie, through the fence. We have a chain link fence, and I know that when the other dog got too close, my Lhasa started barking and biting the chain links.
I FREAKED OUT! I was yelling and screaming for it to let go, but it wouldn''t. I had to go outside the fence and kick the other dog 7 or 8 times before it let go of her. Luckily, it ran away, but my poor baby had been terribly injured. It basically scalped her from the left side of her mouth, under her chin, and left the skin barely hanging on by a thread on the right side.
I was hysterical trying to catch her and get her to the vet. It makes me cry now.
I got her to the vet, and 100+ stitches later, he reattached her face. That was Friday, Nov. 21st. She''s been in the hospital since then.
Yesterday, he called to tell me that some necrosis had set in on her bottom lip, and he had to remove about an inch of her lip. He''s hopeful that what remains will grow together; however, she won''t have a bottom lip. He says she''s been eating and drinking and her spirits seem to be up. We just have to worry about infection, but supposedly if she hasn''t developed one by tomorrow, she *should* be in the clear. I think I get to take her home tomorrow.
I''m hoping that once her hair grows back, we''ll hardly be able to see the damage except for the missing lip.
I don''t have any children, and my husband has been in Iraq for the past 13 months; so, my baby and her sister, my Sheltie, are my babies. This whole ordeal has just about sent me over the edge. I cannot get the violent attack out of my head. It keeps replaying and replaying over and over again.
I know she''s only a dog, but she''s very important to me. Please pray for a speedy recovery for her.
