Please send some dust my way.

It''s taken me this long to be able to talk about it without breaking down.

Last Friday, I let my dogs out in the backyard after work. I heard both them begin barking and carrying on, but then, I heard a yelp. Ugh. I knew something terrible was up when I heard that sound! I ran outside, and another dog (at least part pit bull) had grabbed a hold of my little Lhasa, Maddie, through the fence. We have a chain link fence, and I know that when the other dog got too close, my Lhasa started barking and biting the chain links.

I FREAKED OUT! I was yelling and screaming for it to let go, but it wouldn''t. I had to go outside the fence and kick the other dog 7 or 8 times before it let go of her. Luckily, it ran away, but my poor baby had been terribly injured. It basically scalped her from the left side of her mouth, under her chin, and left the skin barely hanging on by a thread on the right side.

I was hysterical trying to catch her and get her to the vet. It makes me cry now.

I got her to the vet, and 100+ stitches later, he reattached her face. That was Friday, Nov. 21st. She''s been in the hospital since then.

Yesterday, he called to tell me that some necrosis had set in on her bottom lip, and he had to remove about an inch of her lip. He''s hopeful that what remains will grow together; however, she won''t have a bottom lip. He says she''s been eating and drinking and her spirits seem to be up. We just have to worry about infection, but supposedly if she hasn''t developed one by tomorrow, she *should* be in the clear. I think I get to take her home tomorrow.

I''m hoping that once her hair grows back, we''ll hardly be able to see the damage except for the missing lip.

I don''t have any children, and my husband has been in Iraq for the past 13 months; so, my baby and her sister, my Sheltie, are my babies. This whole ordeal has just about sent me over the edge. I cannot get the violent attack out of my head. It keeps replaying and replaying over and over again.

I know she''s only a dog, but she''s very important to me. Please pray for a speedy recovery for her.

Oh LC my heart goes out to you. Our dogs are a big part of our family too. Lots of dust for a speedy recovery for your poor baby!

Oh honey, I am so sorry to hear this, your poor baby.
It sounds like she is in good hands now, and I pray that they can help her heal as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I know how you feel. My furbabies mean the world to me, and I''m in agony whenever one of them is hurting.

BIG hugs and lots of dust coming your way, librarychickie.

I am sorry to hear this.
Truck load of dust on your way.

LC, My heart breaks for you and your doggie. Sending tons of dust!!!

Maddie is not *only* a dog. She''s your family.

You are perfectly entitled to be upset! Was this a neighbor''s dog or a stray?

Hugs, prayers and healing thoughts coming your way. I am so so SO sorry for the trauma to Maddie and to you.
(I grew up with a Lhasa and have been a Sheltie owner for the past 26 years; I''m 39 now.)

OH, how terrifying that must have been for you! Sending lots of dust for a complete and speedy recovery! I''m always surprised at how resilient our furbabies can be, so hopefully yours will be back to being herself (minus a lip) in no time!

Oh librarychickie! I''m so terribly sorry--how horrible! Your poor baby. ((((HUGS))))
Sending her much dust for a speedy recovery.

Hope you are ok!

I''ve never seen the other dog around our neighborhood. Since it had a collar, I''m sure it got out of its yard or house and just wandered to our neighborhood.

If you''ve had a Lhasa, you know how spunky they can be. It''s her personality!

Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh your poor baby! I am so sorry this happened to her.

You are both in my thoughts! ((((((Hugs))))))) Hopefully she will have a speedy recovery, and will go back to her usual spunky self.

I could barely *read* this post so I can''t imagine how you''re feeling!!! GET BETTER SOON FUR BABY!!!! My only advice about the trauma of the attack would be to try to tell yourself the story of how you remained calm enough to stop the attack, catch your injured baby and get her to help as soon as humanly possible. Its almost Super Human what you accomplished!!! Between you & your fella -- you''re making two countries safer!

Oh gosh, sending lots of PS dust for your sweet doggie.

Loads and loads of special PS dust being sent to you and Maddie. I''ve never owned a dog, but my furbaby kitties have all been very special.

Maddie''s got youth on her side as well as you and a caring vet; she should do fine.

Lots of dust to your family. I second Deco - you did great! I''m sure Maddie appreciates what you did.

My heart goes out to you. it''s obvious how much you love your baby. She is not "only a dog." She is a beloved family member.

My mom''s dog was attacked by a pit bull a couple of years ago; he survived and recovered--once his hair grew back you could not even tell. he is doing great and so will yours.

Dogs are very resilient and she will pull through. You are doing all you can, which is getting her the best care possible. Pls keep your spirits up--she needs you to be her rock right now.

Thank you also for you and your family''s sacrifice for our country. I can''t imagine how difficult it must be to have your husband away and now this. You are in my prayers.

Oh My LC, my heart just broke in half reading your post. I am sending tons of fairy dust for your dear sweet Maddie. I would have screamed my head off too at that other dog.

We have a Lhasa too, her name is Mazie and she looks just like your Maddie, down to the coloring and all. My daughters dog, ripped Mazies eye out in the beginning of the year, so I know what you are going through. Your poor Maddie is going through a lot more then our Mazie did.

Lhasa''s are spunky little dogs and I know Maddie will recover just fine. Once she does, she won''t even remember what happened to her.

We thought Mazie would have a problem adjusting with just one eye, but once she was used to it, she was back to running all around the house and playing with her tennis ball.

I do hope you find out, who that dreadful dog belongs too, so he can''t hurt another dog again.

Hugs to you honey, please be sure to let us know your dear sweet Maddie is when you bring her home.

Love, Linda

i''m so sorry. wishing your puppy a speedy recovery!

Much healing dust being sent your way for both you and Maddie. Your post brought me to tears

I''m so sorry to hear what happened to her. I''ll keep my fingers crossed that she recovers really soon. The fact that she''s eating and drinking is definitely a good sign. And I agree with others-she''s your family!

Ditto every word, I am so very sorry about what happened, but as Bee says that she is eating and drinking is a really good sign! Be as positive as you can for her, and every day nature does its work and she will heal a bit more and recover!

Your post made me feel so upset and sick. Your poor little girl. I hope she gets well soon and can come home to her mummy.

LC, I am so sorry! I think I can imagine how you''re feeling . . . DH and I have three dogs of our own, but no human kids, so our dogs are our kids too! BIIIIIG HUGS to you and Maddie! Please keep us posted as to how your sweet baby is doing!

I hope for a quick recovery for your poor little furbaby!!

I hope your furbaby recovers soon, she is such a cutie - looks like an ewokie :).

When one of my kitties was really sick I would take him yougurt (his favourite treat) down to the vets to make him feel better, if you can visit her yet that might make you both feel better.

I had to stop reading the post cuz my eyes were all watery and I almost started crying at work... I know I would probably be hysterical if my lil furbaby ever got attacked. I wish her a fast recovery! *dust dust dust*

Oh my gosh! How terrible...I'm so sorry this happened to your poor doggy.
