Please tell me what you think. I know from reading through here that many have gone through a similar syndrome . . .

New studs arrived Monday from BGD. .428 (856 tcw), G & H in 8 prong settings. They are perfect. BG did a great job making the prongs tiny, just as I had requested. The diamonds are lovely. I am a small person, with small ear lobes. They seem just right -- you see them, they are bright, but they are not bling, they are not "wow." And I am not a wow kind of person, so they suit me well.

And yet, and yet . . . .I keep looking at the pictures of the larger studs and thinking, gee, it would be nice to have ones that look like that . . .

Does this go away? Should I just love my perfect " little" studs and move on?

I need to make a decision soon. I had thought that I could take my time and decide if I want to upgrade some time in the future. But BGD requires an upgrade on two features (cut, clarity, color) and since these are GH and I would not want better color nor would I want to pay for VS2 over S1, I would only want to upgrade size. I could do it by moving from SI1 to VS2 as well as size but it would not be optimal And as far as color -- would probably entertain going to J or K to get the size. So if I want to increase size it would be better to do it now, return the studs for a refund and buy new studs.

But I do love these studs. Sorry for the ramble, but would appreciate all thoughts . . . .briangavin_8prong_dhall2b_050114.jpgphoto_66.jpg

Wow...they look like a perfect size to me for everyday studs but only you can decide if the size is going to continue to
bother you. Usually, if something bothers you now it will always bother you.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're too perfect, keep them!!! :errrr:

:wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

I think they look perfectly suited for the size of your earlobe. Get some jackets for when you want that "wow" factor... I am in a similar situation (smallish earlobes, lower-key lifestyle for the most part), and I am on the search for some jackets to jazz things up when I want to. :)

Have you tried on larger sized studs? I don't like how larger ones get too close to the edge of my earlobe. But that is just personal preference!

Go bigger.

Saydee, so sorry. I replied to your question in the other stud thread. It I can tell you that it did not go away for me. I wore it for two weeks, loved wearing studs but wanted bigger, which I had wanted from the start but decided to go smaller to get 2 WF diamonds. I ended up settling for one. ;). Who knows. Maybe you'll get used to it or get ok with it. I (fortunately) did not. :)

Ok I just pasted my response here, from the other thread.
Saydee, I had similar thoughts when I was wearing the .8 studs. For me, it all came down to perspective, meaning my perspective, the wearer. Other people could see the full diamond when they looked my ears. But of course the wearer has a different and more obstructed view because we can only see a portion of our ears, and we see the stone at an angle, which means less visual surface area. That is what made me feel like they weren't "big enough". Now, with the new ones (I've tried 1.1-1.2 sizes at the store.), these should be big enough to let me see more on my own ear. And then of course that does even factor in the size and shape of your lobe which also makes a difference. Yeah, it's been confusing. The stud is a whole different animal.

Sorry, one last thing. So when people say "it's perfect on you" they do mean it. It's "perfect" from their perspective, they who get a full straight view of your ears. Whether it's perfect from your perspective, only YOU can decide that.

I have 2 sets of studs, MRB at .54 carats and princess .50 carats they are perfect yours are perfect.

Mine largest studs are 0.65 tcw. I have small ear lobes and the 0.32 looks in proportion to the lobe and is good for wearing all the time.
I think yours look perfect!

The problem with DDS is that no matter what size diamond you [I,I mean] settle on, the next 0.5 mm up always seems to call.
The idea of jackets makes a lot sense as an rX for DDS.

Have you tried on larger spread ones to see how they would look on your ears? I wear 1ct in each ear but my earlobes are much wider than yours. As for DSS, it only gets worse not better.

Thanks for all the responses, all, both the ones who say "keep" and the ones who say "bigger." Just reading and reacting helps me figure out how I feel. I'm not there yet.

I did try on studs in BM stores, on three separate trips and decided that what they called 7/8 which measured .48, was best. The larger full half carat ones were great too but coming from my teeny baby studs it just seemed too bold. But may-be it just takes time to get used to a bigger look. Anyway, I ordered exactly the size that I had carefully determined to be "correct" for me based on the trips to the store. And the ones I got look at least as big if not bigger (separate topic but buying online I got AGS 000 gorgeous stones for the same price as mediocre cut visibly included stones at the BM store- -- but -- you all already know that's how that works . . . .)

I will think about jackets. My life is all about the quotidian -- I rarely get out of gym clothes or jeans these days --so the studs were chosen with that in mind.

Well, I will sit with this for a little while longer . . . .thanks again, everyone

I have 1.00 ctw BGD studs & love the size on me. I think what you've chosen look perfect. That said I do think the jackets are a great idea :naughty:

Having seen and tried on the IDJ jackets in person, I can safely say they are very beautiful & sparkly!

There are a bunch of PSers with the jackets so you can do a search.
Thought this thread would give you a great visual since the diamonds are very close in size to yours

Guilty of DSS 1.60 2.05 2.41 That's it I swear however yours are gorgeous.

These are gorgeous on you.

I do think there is a limit to DSS. I do not want a larger AVR than I have for a ring. But I upgraded to get where I am now. Studs I am at .80 each and I think I could go to a carat or so and that would be my absolute limit. So yes, it does go away when you get to your optimal size!

I advise buying from WhiteFlash or Good Old Gold if you think you'd ever want to upgrade. I do not like BG's restrictions on upgrading.

That's why I bought from WF.

Speaking from personal experience, yes it does eventually go away! It all depends on your budget, ear size and other comparable jewelry.

I have bought from both BGD and WF--both provide great value! I think the upgrade policy w/ BGD is on a case by case basis in terms of parameters. But I do think you ultimately need to have a net increase in the funds to be able upgrade. I would speak to your sales associate about it first if you are thinking about upgrading now and see what your options are.

I guess DSS goes away when you look at your hand, or your ears in the mirror, and don't wish that the stone was bigger lol; and I think it's possible to achieve that, I think most people can reach a point where they say "ok, I'm good" - if you're feeling a twinge of DSS now, it probably won't go away, so I think you should go bigger if it's an option for you.

I don't know how to make it go away. I currently have 1.6ctw studs and tried on ones around 6ctw (I think, can't really remember) and thought large, but not too large. I thought about this thread last night when we went out with friends. She recently received 1/5 ctw diamond studs and they were so sparkly and just looked amazing on her! Sure, friend could wear larger studs but they looked lovely on her! Something is wrong with me :(

Hey,
These are too perfect for you, Go ahead !
:saint:

Gosh, I am exactly in the same situation as you, that is how I found the topic.

I had to return the BGD studs I ordered just a couple of weeks ago because of a problem with the setting and now am thinking if they already have to re-set them, would it not be better to upgrade the stones?

In my case I was selecting the size exactly like you did - 1) I am sportive, casual, with small earlobes and do not like too much blink actually and 2) I went to a couple of shops and decided on the perfect size (when ordering I actually went a bit over the size I liked in the shop to be on the safe side)... But now these studs have shrunk without me even wearing them!!! (I returned the package based on the photos, as said there was a misunderstanding on the setting, so I did not need to have them in my hand).

These would be my first studs and I feel like the first trying on was overwhelming and now the more and more I get used to the idea, to less I feel like the bigger size would bother me :)

Plus I was saving my budger for a pendant which I will not buy in the end, so I am just thinking shall I invest more and click the studs check-box "forever"? Is it destiny that I could not accept the first batch and shall I listen to my inner voice. If I don't do it now I will have to upgrade with more cost and inconvenience with shipping etc.
Or shall I just stick to my plan? I can not be sure the bigger ones would be forever, but budget wise probably yes, since to go even higher would be crazy.

the current pair is a 1.08 ctw E SI1 ideal cut (0.543 per ear)
the others would be 1,48 ctw G SI1 ideal (0.705 per ear), which I find also more appropriate color for studs, there was not so much to choose from with the smaller pair.

The price difference would be 2.3K... Is it worth it?

How about you? Did you make a decision yet? I am here to talk if you want :)

 me too !!!!!!

I think they are the perfect size for your petite ears. Especially if they are "every days". I think the larger you go, the dresser the look becomes. I have three sizes of diamond studs. A .60 ctw pair, a 1.00 ctw and a 1.50 ctw pair. I feel more comfortable wearing either my smallest pair for every day, or my 1.00 pair without feeling I'm a little overdressed for the day. I save my largest pair for evenings out or social events. I too am petite, and even my smallest pair are a decent size for my earlobes.

Oh my, thank you all for the honest and caring responses to this. It is really good to know that others are experiencing what I am going through.

Have been looking through the list of pairs, and considered going to J or K in order to get bigger size within just a few hundred dollars more. It is an attainable possibility, but I honestly cannot tell whether it would make me happier, or, neither more nor less happy (after the thrill had worn off) or even possibly chagrined that I had made a mistake by not pushing away from the table when I was quite sated and satisfied. How to tell?

The more I wear these studs, the more "bonded" to them I feel; they're beautiful and right for me. Right not just for my ears, and small stature, but for the strange confines of what I feel comfortable wearing. For example, I never wear color -- every time I try even a tee shirt that isn't black or gray or navy, I find I just don't feel comfortable. The colors sometimes beckon to me but always wind up unworn. I know I'm weird that way, but old enough to recognize my foibles. So I kind of think that larger stones, while they're calling like a siren, and while they would be gorgeous and I would love them at first, might eventually feel like a bit beyond me. The earrings that I have now are lovely and quite perfect. They're "there" but they're not head-turningly there. At the end of the day I think that is the "zone" where I live most comfortably.

Perhaps I am just rationalizing. I have never, anywhere in these pages, read any post where the author said she (or he) had made a mistake and gone too big. But, I know that if I really want to, I can always change my mind.

I may never have posted it, but I got rid of a 2CTW pair because I thought they were way too big on my earlobes. Kinda wish I'd kept the stones, though, but have no idea what I'd do with them.

Those earrings look really good and in proportion to your ears. Are you wearing them 24/7? If you go larger, they might be uncomfortable to wear to bed...

That said, I bought some BGD studs a few months back and feel the same as you do. They're really pretty and look good on but don't have a head-turning WOW factor. I recall the pair I had (which I lost) DID have that effect. In fact, people would look at my earrings while talking to me. The size on the pair I lost wasn't much larger, but something about that additional .10 per ear PLUS the F color and larger table might have made a huge difference. Though...the WOW size was a bit too much for me (which is why I didn't wear them all the time, unlike my current smaller pair, which I wear almost every day). Sometimes understated is better if you're comfortable! In my ideal world, I'll keep the smaller pair I bought and eventually get a larger pair of studs for WOW days! ;))

I think what someone suggested earlier was a great idea for times when you want some extra 'Wow'. Jackets... :cheeky:
