Drooping Studs

Hello all, I'm new here, and need some advice. I currently have a basket setting with a screw back and I believe my studs are too large to sit correctly on my ears. Each stone is 1.65 cts. Would a martini setting correct the drooping issue or should I change the backing? Also, my diamonds are cushion cut, would they look as good in a martini setting?

Changing the screw backs may help. There are larger, very sturdy backs that help with this issue, try some on and see. Otherwise, some people, myself included may get drooping studs because I have almost no lobes, are your earlobes also tiny?

Nope. They're not tiny. It may just be the deep basket and not enough stability on the back. I searched the other threads and I think I'm going to try a stabilizer first to see if that helps. I requested screw backs on these because I knew the studs were expensive and I've lost diamonds before and definitely didn't want that to happen this time. So, I'm hesitant to change the backing.

I had no idea this site existed but I’m glad I found it. The stabilizers work great. Not sure why I didn’t think of that before. Oh well.

Jumbo backs are the best, makes the diamonds sit exactly where they are supposed to be. And insurance is a must for studs.

I definitely wouldn't change to martini as those are naturally going to fall at an angle. Larger push backs are one good idea and is what I use, but there are other products as well.

Levears
Lobe Wonder

There is an inexpensive product called Bling Dots that fit on the post of an earring and lend a great deal of "non drooping".

Many of our clients swear by them.

Jumbo backs gave me an instant lobe lift. I wore my studs two years before discovering them. I’m slow.

Yes definitely! They are insured, but our jeweler told us if one was lost it would be nearly impossible to find another diamond (fancy yellow) that would match as well as these.

So, I've been wearing these plastic stabilizer backs in between my ear and the back screw and it's working great for the drooping, however, the screws feel like they're unscrewing now and I find myself checking periodically to make sure they're tight. Because I keep tightening them my ears are getting red and I end up just taking them off because they're uncomfortable. I will be looking in to other options... thanks for the tips everyone!

I use the plastic discs as well. I found that one of the two consistently unscrews. I've been wearing screw backs for about 35 years and have never had this problem without the plastic discs. I did notice that one of my piercings (the one that unscrews) is not perfectly straight. Don't know whether that is the problem.

Soooo, I use the disc on the ear/earring that doesn't unscrew.....

Another vote for the surgical stainless steel and plastic jumbo backs. Mine are 11mm. They work like a dream. Just pop it in and push back and it locks in place. No screwing or unscrewing. I can’t link the amazon product but here’s something similar on Etsy.

The amazon product I buy is surgical steel jumbo backs 10 pieces for $4.99.

Thanks Missy! Might have to re-evaluate the screw backs on this pair. Doesn’t seem to be working out.

My favorite type of jewelry are earrings. I've had experience with screw backings and all the time the screw was unscrewing. I found out that the best backings are high quality tight jumbo push backings. I feel them comfortable and secure.
This is the type of jumbo backings that I'm talking about:

That’s probably the best solution, Eva. When I requested the screw backs I didn’t take into account how heavy these would be. Had I known about the drooping issue I probably would have gone with the jumbo push back. I’m sure my husband will roll his eyes when I request to have these redone o_O
