Years ago I was told that double piercings are "cheap, taudry and unprofessional" . This was from a job coordinator in college. Lately I've been thinking of getting a pair of diamond hoops (someday, when the economy improves, or the Sonia Bitton earrings at SHOPNBC go on sale). I would like to wear my 1 ct total weight solitaires in the top hole (.50cts each) and then the diamond hoops in the lower hole. Is that too much for everyday wear? I'm not talking monster hoops, but maybe smaller 2cttw in and outs.

I voted yes on double piercings. When I retired 10 years ago I was at a Director level in a large health care company. I have had double piercings my entire life and it was never mentioned to me that it was unprofessional nor did it ever hold me back in my profession. I always wear diamond studs in my second holes and some kind of hoop or dangle earring in my first holes. It may be different if you have multiple piercings all up and down your ears but I think two sets of holes are fine.

I can''t speak from personal experience yet, but when I was on interviews at law firms this past fall, I saw several female attorneys with double piercings. I think it''s gotten much more socially and professionally acceptable. I have multiple ear piercings (double piercings, plus one in the middle of my right ear on the cartilage, and one on the upper cartilage on my right ear). I''m going to have to give up those top two but I''m pretty sure I''m keeping my second set of piercings.

I have double piercings, and have never had anyone call them unprofessional. Well, maybe my mother, but she''s come around.

I see a lot more women, of many ages with double piercings. And if for some reason you are ever in a situation where you felt one pair more appropriate - you can always just wear earrings in your first holes.

I''m not a fan, but my style is certainly more understated when it comes to jewelry. I am a "less is more" person. But I don''t think they are tawdry, just not my style.

I voted no, not because double holes are unprofessional, but because I've had multiple holes in my ears and have always regretted it. Once your ears are pierced, it's almost impossible to go back. They won't heal and the holes will always be there, unless you stop using the newly pierced holes straight away.

If you want a more blingy look, it might be better to get larger diamonds later.

Just my 2 cents.

Ditto! I actually have 5 holes in each ear from my pop punk days but I only wear earrings in 1 of the holes now.

I do think that if you do want to wear 2 sets maybe do smaller studs in the second holes.

I voted "yay" bring on the bling!!!

I guess it depends on the job. For me, its a nay.

Unfortunately I have double peircing as well and have been waiting for them to close but it hasn''t. I would never come in with two sets of earrings. Just like I find it highly inappropriate when men wear an earring.

It depends on the industry you are in. Mine is so conservative thart I don''t wear ANY jewellery to interviews.

Same here.

I am older AND a dental hygienist and I have 3 holes in each ear. I wear diamond hoops in the bottom and .15 stud in each upper hole. No one has ever complained and I actually get a few compliments! I feel the size makes it understated. I will wear all three till they put me in a nursing home

I think it depends on your business....

My girls can have peircings in their ears (I perfer no more than 2 per ear). But, we''re also in a fashion forward industry where it''s not uncommon to see full-sleve tattoos, eyebrow rings, and studs in the nose.

When it''s a judgement call, I always revert back to thinking "if I were a client and looking at this professional MUA right now for advice, would I be comfortable" maybe that''s the wrong approach, but thats me.

DH has an earring.... I don't think it's inappropriate. At least I got him to stop wearing a hoop when we were dating...

The man looked like a pirate wannabe, hee hee. He has a teeeeeeny little diamond he usually wears and switches it out with a titanium ball. However, he does take it out for interviews or other more high profile things.

I will say this - Sizzle, if you do get the second hole, be so, so anal about making sure they are even before they pierce! It's actually my first piercings that are uneven, and no one else would ever notice but- Oy it drives me CRAZY!

I don''t think double piercings are inappropriate for the workplace at all, but I voted no because I just don''t like the look as I once did. I got my ears double pierced when I 16, and it was fine all through college, but when I got engaged I realized I really didn''t want to have double piercings for my wedding day (and my mom even offered to get me a pair of tiny studs!). I don''t think the second hole is fully closed yet, nearly 3 years later, but I''m really glad I''ve stopped wearing the second pair. It''s just a classier look, IMO.

That all said, I don''t think people really notice a second piercing (I don''t think I''ve ever noticed on anyone else!), so if it''s a look you love, then why not?

I''m not a fan of more than one set of piercings. Unfortunely, in my teens, I decided to get doubles and then also a third hole on my left ear and now I regret doing so because they haven''t closen up after not wearing earrings in them for over 10 years. The holes are still there.

Sorry...didn''t mean it was inappropriate in life, just meant at work depending on the job. I just didn''t finish typing it all out. FI had an earring when we met too but it closed up.

Gotcha.

I agree - wearing an earring (for a dude) to a court date, interview etc.... not so much...

I''m a less is more kind of girl so I voted nay. However I don''t think anyone is going to do a double take at double piercings anymore. Plus I think a woman conservatively dressed with tasteful earrings in both piercings looks much more professional than a woman with single piercings and cleavage galore out of a v-neck top.

It''s all in the presentation.

Yup, what she said.

I have double piercings in my ears, and I am an attorney. I don''t think it''s unprofessional as long as the earrings are tasteful. I usually wear either very small studs or very small hoops in the top hole, and a larger stud in the bottom hole. Sometimes I only wear earrings in the bottom holes.

I''ve seen many professional ladies with double piercings, and as long as they choose tasteful earrings and are otherwise well-dressed, there is nothing unprofessional about the two sets of earrings.

I''m a software developer and I have 8 piercings in my ear. Ironically I don''t wear the traditional ones that often. I also have my tongue pierced so I guess I''m not the one to ask.

Overall, I don''t think it would be unprofessional to have 2 holes with earrings, and I don''t really think unprofessional if you would be wearing 1 ct total studs with small diamond hopes, but it might be a bit distracting. I agree that it does depend on the industry, but that is more diamonds than I am used to seeing on one''s ears in daily life.

I didn''t vote because I don''t really have an opinion - I wouldn''t want them myself (I barely wear earrings in my singly-pierced ears) but don''t notice/care when others have them.

I voted yay.

But I have seven piercings in each ear, and I had my tongue pierced for over ten years until I just took it out last winter. I teach in a public high school, and while I''m probably the most heavily pierced person on staff, nobody ever said a word about the tongue ring.

I only wear one earring in each ear now, but I''ll throw a couple more in if I feel like it.

Ditto to the other posters about the piercings being forever, though--all 14 of my ear piercings are still there, and I kept several of them out for years.

I voted yay even thought I only wear earrings in my first set of piercings. I had 4 piercings in each ear at one time, but I stopped wearing them and they closed up...but I don''t think it looks bad or anything like that.

(I also have tattoos, and I used to rock the most outrageously colored hair ever.)

My mother likes to say I am a study in contrasts. But isn''t everyone?

Never would have seen that coming either!

I might give you a run for your money on the hair colors though... I had everything from pink, to red, to purple and back again, LOL!

It is a personal choice. For me - it is a neigh..oh sorry, a nay.
