A quick question - Does F stone + G setting = Bad ring?

Not at all!!! I have an E colored stone with G/H colored stones in the setting...they look great together!! It depends on the quality of the stones and the type of setting, but I wouldn''t be so quick to discount it...

It depends on how color sensitive you are and how accurately the diamonds are graded. Most people would find it a bit of a challenge to separate an accurately graded "F" color from an accurately graded "G" color, but some people are better at this than others... If possible, place your diamond on top of the setting and see how it looks to you.

No way. That's A-OK. And this is *me* talking....I *had* to have a modern cushion three stone ring and it's SLIM pickins out there. SO, when I found an F and a G to match my E center stone, I went for it but didn't think it could work ...So I have a G next to an E and it looks great. At first I tried to tell myself I could see the difference, but heck no. Looks beautiful if I do say so myself LOL :)

There are some good pix on pages 4 & 5

G is so close to the D-F range, I can''t imagine having a problem! I have been able to tell the difference in some settings but it is usually because the center stone is 4-5 colors different from the others...

if the diamonds are graded similarly, then it will be fine.

even if you are color sensitive (like me!)

I have noticed many of the e-rings I have been looking at use G graded side stones, including Tacori. Although I have yet to look at any in person, I think it is fair to assume that sense the diamonds are small, and G is still very close to F that it will not be notiable. It might even be a good thing, if the side stones are a slightly lower quality then the main stone. The point of an E-ring is usually to bring attention to the center stone right? If your center stone is a better color then it should allow light refraction better.

Thanks for the replies! I was initially targeting an F SI1 stone, but given these responses, I think I can loosen the color contraint and consider trading off to a G/VS2 combo.

definitely not! i think F/G is fine as a combo.

F stone + G setting = very good ring (subject of course to the specs of the C''s)
