I love this show and the season premiere was last night. I wanted to see what everyone else thought about what they did with it.

First of all Hugh Laurie is amazing as always. I do have some problems with the plot/writing though. Why would he all of a sudden change his ways and want to get better (He was happy all those seasons before)? Meeting, falling in love and having a meaningful (to him) relationship with the woman who visits in a short 4 weeks seems to be stretching reality (yes I realize that tv is fictional and stretches reality). I thought the last season finale had him interested in Cuddy...it doesn''t make sense. Also the 2 hours seemed to drag on. Him helping that superhero guy seemed so out of character. I think it focused a lot on the other patients and not him too. I think it seemed strange because of the bad writing we (the audience) didn''t get to see why he (supposedly) changed his ways and wanted to get better etc. Sorry to be a Negative Nelly but bad writing really annoys me (and I feel I wasted 2 hours watching it).

I don't watch it but my best friend's husband does, and I have a cool story to share about the show.

When the show first went on the air best friend's hubby became obsessed with it. My best friend wanted to get him some House swag for a birthday or holiday, I can't remember, but there was nothing on the market to buy. SO, being the incredibly resourceful individual that she is, she searched and found email address of one of the producers of the show, and sent him an email asking if they had any House products for her to buy. He responded and asked her for her home address, which she gave, and then a week later she received a huge box of *free* House stuff in the mail--a fleece jacket, signed photographs, t-shirts, mugs, etc. It was so cool, and I've always thought that the House crew must be made up of very cool people since then.

This is the same friend who heard a song on the radio one day, fell in love with it, tracked down the artist, and convinced him to play during her wedding ceremony.

We watched it. I wasn''t thrilled with the "relationship" with the married woman. It slightly concerned me that they pushed the idea that no one could get better without meds. But the show had some good moments and maybe it''ll be interesting to see a happier House this season. I really, really liked the head of the rehab program and the relationship he had with House.

the premiere sucked.

At first I liked it that he was bucking the system. I don''t want a happy, well adjusted House. I like him to be an a$$hole. I thought the relationship with the married lady was off and the House crying was LAME. Overall I am not going to say that I am unhappy with it because they really didn''t have alot to work off of ending the season with him going into the ward, but I will stop watching the show if he goes soft!

I dvrd the premiere and we are gonna watch it tonight. These reviews have me wondering. I like my House to be stoned and a jerk. Otherwise, it''s just another dr show.

somethingshiny- you should not have read this thread. I should have put a spoiler alert at the top. I think that we are being judgemental because we can. You should absolutely watch it though. It is still worth watching even with all the complaints we have.

Somethingshiny, its worth watching. Its just...different. I''ll just say that its not the same without the team and that not all of it is believable. Somehow his usual epiphanies are different than miracles, you know?

As an aside, has anyone seen the musical In the Heights? I think House''s roommate was the lead from it...

I second!! Oh well! I''ll watch it in a bit and I guess I''ll find out soon enough if I still love me some House!

Well, it was a bit slow and some of the things that happened were just not things House would do/say. That said, it was a refreshing change to the show - I was getting quite bored of the same old routine.

As usual though, loved the soundtrack. Did you know Hugh Laurie personally selects all the music in the show??? He and I would get along really well!

I started watching it about 1/2 hour in, but had a little trouble figuring out what he was doing in a psychiatric hospital? First I thought he was there to crack some medical mystery, but then it seemed like he was there to work on his depression/difficulty trusting others - is that right? The show seemed quite different from previous episodes - maybe because of the different locale.

I thought him falling him love so quickly with the married lady seemed a bit 'out of character' too. Overally, though, I thought it was fairly interesting. I'm in the mental health field so I enjoyed the scenarios with the other patients as well.

Did you not see last seasons finale? He was having hallucinations of Amber, he was a patient in the hospital, not a doctor.

I liked it. I especially liked that it was different and completely outside of his usual setting - that was the point of the episode, guys, to show House doing something different, not the same old routine. And if he wanted to get out of the hospital then he had to play by their rules, so being his usual self the whole way through wouldn''t have gotten him anywhere, and he would still be in isolation.

I agree with MP. I think it was supposed to be something VERY different for viewers, and for House.

I thought the episode was really interesting, although I did find many parts of it sad and disturbing and I couldn''t quit thinking about it when I went to bed.

I plan to watch next week!

HI:

I rarely watch TV, but if I do it is this show. Satisfied my need for escapism! I amwondering why can''t we find geniuses like this to solve all our medical problems!!

hahaha I jsut might watch next week too.......

cheers--Sharon

I missed him solving a case. I really thought he was going to "cure" the mute lady. I hope he still stays grouchy.

There is a lot in that show that is stretched so I am not surprised they are stretching the plot.

For one his speciality is a fake speciality and the "fellows" do every aspect of the medical workup (including stuff surgeons would do). Although the diseases are real, the way they are workup up is often made more invasive and complicated for drama.

As for his rehab, I didn''t see this episode, but I remember him "cleaning up" before and relapsing before. I wouldn''t be surprised if it happens again. That is actually probably the most accurate part of the show because true addicts have to quit several times before they quit for real.

But, in real life, he would have lost his license to practice medicine.

Is Cuddy a man-woman? In real life, i mean.

I''ve been watching Hugh Laurie for nearly 30 years, the man is a complete genius. Wouldn''t miss House for the world, but I do wonder where they are going this season. I''m all for a bit of a change to the story format, which essentially is the same each week.

He was utterly, utterly brilliant in all of the Blackadder series with Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean).

You guys on this side of the pond know what I''m talking about?

Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, Fortysomething and Fry and Laurie are all awesome. I forgot to add I thought the curing of the mute lady with the music box was cheesy and contrived. Thanks everyone for not getting angry at me for being critical of the show. I''m glad other people agree with some of the issues of the writing of the premiere.

No, I didn''t, actually. I guess that''s why I was a bit lost.

I wasn''t thrilled with it, but the music was genius. I was excited to hear Radiohead within the first 30 seconds of the premiere, especially one of my favorite songs. I''ve always wondered why this song isn''t used in series/movies more often as the lyrics are awesome.

Is anyone else disappointed that House was hallucinating about sleeping with Cuddy? I''ve wanted them to get together since the beginning and I was so disappointed to see that it was a hallicunation.

Anywho, I love Hugh Laurie and think he''s an amazing actor. I can''t wait to tune in next week.

I was! DH thought I was nuts - when I saw them attack each other I started squealing and clapping. I was so bummed to find out it was all in his head!

So, I watched it last night. The first half hour was hilarious! I love the one liners towards the other patients. It was definitely a bit "One Flew Over the Cuckoo''s Nest" (which happens to be one of my favorite movies) so I wasn''t all that disappointed. It had some "off" moments, come on--House cry after sex?? But, it definitely gives a new direction to the show.
