Does a greater crown angle make for a larger table? I''m trying to understand how this works (and effects fire).

I would think a greater crown angle makes for a larger table but from what I''ve learned that is not so but I don''t know why.

Can someone explain, please?

Oh, also how do you delete a post you made? I did a search and can''t find the answer.

One more, how do you edit your subject line?

Thanks.

table size is a product of both the crown angle and the crown height(%). For a fixed crown height %, increasing the crown angle will increase the table size. for a fixed crown angle, decreasing the crown height % will increase the table size.

Right. Represented graphically, think of the crown as a mountain...

If the slopes (crown angle) remain constant a smaller peak (table) means a higher mountain...If you start grinding that peak down the plateau it forms will naturally get larger.

Graphic: All examples have 34.5 CA (slope of the mountain). Tables ("peaks") at 45, 55 and 65%.

If the table remains constant you can get different heights with different crown angles.

In this case every "peak" (table%) is the same. To raise or lower that peak the slope (CA) must change.

Graphic: All examples have a 55% table. Crown angles are 39.5, 34.5 and 29.5 degrees.
