I used to pack my lunch because as a teacher with only 20 minutes for lunch, buying at the cafeteria was the only other option, and packing my own was MUCH healthier than the options they had.

My dh used to be able to come home for lunch, but now that he''s started a new job he can''t. He''s a first year intern at a hospital, so he often doesn''t have a lot of time for lunch, and he still feels weird bringing his own. He doesn''t get much time either, so on the days he does eat lunch, he goes to the express cafe and gets either Subway or a Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza...every single day! I worry about him eating that every day, but for now it makes him happy, so I''ve been letting it go.

What do you do?

Pack! It''s gotten much too expensive to eat out every day! On a treat once in a while we go out. We have an hour.

I pack a lunch... Every once in a while one of my coworkers would go out to get lunch for us, but that''s just because she had a prep hour right before lunch.

I rarely take the time to pack a lunch. Maybe once in a great while, but I usually eat in the caf. I know its not the healthiest, but its convienant.

I used to eat out everyday until I sat down one day and added up how much I spent on lunch/snacks for the month. Now, I go to the grocery story and buy whatever frozen entrees are on sale for the week and take them to work. I also like to take Bertolli''s to work and heat them up in the microwave. It''s not the same as cooking them on the stove, but they still taste good.

how bought both?...few times a week eat out and others pack lunch...compromise

* how bout both* sorry...verrrry sleepy lol

Sabine- I am in a similar position to your DH. Fortunately, during my internship my program paid for our food! Now that I have moved on to my residency, this is not the case and most of my colleagues bring lunch. Eating at the caf daily is too expensive on our limited resident salary! However, I would definitely cut him a little slack on that front as he adjusts to his new life. And then start nagging

(hehe, just kidding)

I try to pack mine, because food at work isn''t very nice and expensive too. But it is a pain to do sometimes.

I find varying the lunches to include things like nice leftovers (from homemade lasagne, pasta etc in tupperware) is much nicer than just eating sandwiches and "typical" packed lunch food every day. Maybe that would make it more appealing?

Icekid, I definitely don''t mind him buying his lunch (heck, saves me from having to pack it for him!). I just worry about his health in that he eats pizza hut multiple times a week! The hospital has a decent cafeteria that makes pretty good food, so maybe eventually he''ll just get sick of the pizza and start eating there!

Yeah, packing is usually more healthy too! Some people do put on the unfortunate intership 15

But, he may be running around enough that he''ll burn the extra calories anyway.

I pack a lunch. DH works from home, he goes out to eat a few times a week, to break up the monotony of working alone. He makes really good food choices, typically, even at fast food restaurants, so it doesn''t bother me and I''m glad he''s getting out of the house and taking a break.

I make dinner the night before, and make enough to pack both mine and DH''s for our lunch the next day- everyday. I used to eat out everday, then realized how expensive and unhealthy at tiimes they were for both of us. We only eat out twice a week on Friday nights and Saturday nights, to give me a break from cooking.

I always pack a lunch for work.
It is healthier and cheaper.
I hate wasting money.

I cook a big chicken or beef thing every weekend.
I split it up into individual portions and freeze in zip lock bags or tupperware.

I also buy brown rice, popcorn and pinto beans in 25 pound bags.
I have diamond and piano habits to support.

I take my lunch plus a few little snacks. We can''t leave the hospital and don''t always have time for lunch so it''s nice to have little things to go grab when I get a minute! I''ll go to the cafeteria if I haven''t been to the grocery store or forgot to pack my lunch but it''s sooo expensive for what it is so I try to stay away!

Both DH and I pack lunch.

I pack my lunch, for four reasons:

1. It''s healthier.

2. It''s cheaper.

3. I tend to "graze" all day.

4. I lose too much money if I take time to go out and have lunch.

I do however tend to eat out (or take-in) most evenings, when I no longer have that time pressure on me.

I take my lunch most of the time for reasons 1-3. We save so much money bringing out lunches...

pack that lunch every day!Healthier for me and my wallet!

I am about half/half lately, where I am packing for 2-3 days and eating out the other days.

I love leftovers so I usually bring a lunch to work. If we don''t have leftovers, I''ll make a sandwich or bring some kind of frozen dinner like a Lean Cuisine or something.

My husband always eats out and it really bothers me. He tries to justify it by saying that he''d be spending money anyway at the grocery store if he were to get sandwich stuff for the week. Yes, DEAR, but it wouldn''t cost you $10 every day!

Sabine- Only 20 minutes for lunch? It seems criminal.
We are 2 but cook like we''re feeding an army so it''s packed leftovers for lunch here.

I pack my lunch everyday. Gets a little boring sometimes, but the savings are worth it for me.

I cheat! I live two blocks from work, so go home every day.

OK, before that, I packed my lunch 80% of the time. Same reasons as the others, healthier and cheaper. Whenever I cook something for supper that would make a good meal to be re-heated, I just make a couple extra portions and refrigerate or freeze them in the Ziploc plastic containers that can be popped in the microwave (I still do this). Other times, it was just packing a sandwich.

My husband packs my lunch everyday. He is a saint. On occasion though, I do go out and grab lunch with co-workers.

I pack my lunch! It''s less expensive, healthier, and allows me more time to catch up on paperwork and lesson planning when I don''t have to run out and wait in line somewhere (I''m also a teacher).

I pack my lunch, much healthier and saves money.

I normally pack, and every once in a great while, I''ll eat out. Packing is healthier, and cheaper.

I pack my lunch. It saves a ton of money, and I pack all fruits and veggies so it forces me to eat healthy. My cafeteria serves reaaly gross food sometimes, like liver and nastiness so I don''t even go there.
