I got my hair cut right at the beginning of March before everything closed so I’m good until fall. I’m lucky my cat is calm about grooming and trimming nails and brushing.

Funny story. My coworker, who is a physician and has done procedures on humans, literally was tearing up at the idea and anxiety of cutting his dogs nails out of fear of hitting the quick. He tried and it was so harrowing that he has vowed never again.

We bought safety clippers and it was really NBD.

I have heard of people getting "illegal" haircuts. A sentence I never dreamed I'd write in my lifetime.

I am not surprised. Confounded, but not surprised.

HI:

And I lamented that my last cut was "pretty short" (I asked for a trim....) and yet it worked out pretty well. Who knew? (I'll ask for a pandemic special next time I am in the salon)

cheers--Sharon

I was going to give that a try. Problem is, Wahl clippers are hard to come by right now, and then finding a 2" guide that will work with the clippers. I gave up.

I do my own nails and don't need a haircut but yes people here want to go. Not everywhere has high infection rates or community spread. I know someone who got an illegal haircut...if the mayor of Chicago can justify it then my friend had similar reasons...she had to be in a video and also cares about her personal hygiene. Our governors wife is out traveling so I think it's rather absurd that he threaten to revoke business licenses for 'illegal haircuts' when he's a billionaire and people here are missing paychecks. I wonder who is cutting his hair? I wonder if he has revoked the license of Lightfoots hairdresser? See the thing about making dictates and then getting caught breaking them is people get the idea that maybe they aren't about what's really in our best interest after all.

I went to the hairdresser once a year before covid19 so probably won't be going anytime soon.

My husband will be a haircut at some point. Probably when they tell him he needs to come into work as the hairdresser is near work.

It's not so much that we're afraid it's just that we've been pretty busy. It would take a significant amount of time to devote to getting out to our hairdressers who are located in different suburbs.

My bangs are so long now that in order to keep them back, I have started using my readers as a headband. Lol, now I need readers to see close up and far away!!!

But I don't think I will get them cut anytime soon. Professionally at least.

I'm one of those people that are desperate for a grey root touch-up and mani pedi.

We have been in lockdown since the beginning of April and I've not had these services since way before that, the hair in particular.

I am very much in two mind about going to get them done. I am immuno-suppressed and had a major surgery a couple of months ago. So I probably won't rush to have them done, once lockdown is lifted. I shall watch the situation and see.

Personally, I think the risks of catching the CV or anything else from them is lower than from restaurants where people can breath or sneeze into the food or even in the nearby vicinity. I mean can chefs/cooks really wear masks while cooking in a hot kitchen? Also, everyone is touching your food before it's even delivered to you. As much as I am dying for some restaurant food, I shall have to wait and see too.

Hi. I’ve been doing takeout for 8 weeks. Every other day. My whole family. So far so good!

Happy for you.

I have weakened a moment or two and ordered some delivery food. But I cooked the heck out of everything before I ate them, lol. And used disposable gloves too.

Here, 5 or was it 6 McD employees tested positive. After that, all of McD franchises were ordered to close.

My best friend is also my hairdresser, so when she starts work again, I’ll be going for a cut and colour. She’s a cleaning freak anyway, so I have no qualms about going to her place, and we’ll both be wearing masks. I haven’t had a hair cut since 13th March, so I’m in dire need as I usually get it done every 5 weeks.

I‘d never have a tattoo under any circumstances, so no issue fo rme, and I do my own gel nails.

@Phoenix there are two theories you can take.

1. Once they lift lockdown due to lower numbers run out as fast as you can, get your haircut etc etc before all the dirty people start spreading the virus for a third wave

2. Wait for a few weeks to see how dirty everyone is and see if there's a third wave

I'm currently trying scenario one which means now that numbers are low I'm eating all sorts of festy things. Once/if they climb I'll go hide in my hole again.

There is that! True!

Our community cases are still hovering around 7-10 cases per day. And that's with us in lockdown for 1 1/2 months already.

I shall monitor the situation and see....

Worst case scenario: i go completely grey!! God forbid!!

I'm not in a hurry to go back, but I know people who are. I also know of hairstylists and beauty therapists who have been seeing clients on the qt.

I had my hair highlighted a week before shutdown was declared and it still looks ok. My toes are bare for the first time in years and even though I'm mostly barefoot at home it doesn't bother me at all. The only beauty treatment I'm really desperate for is a face wax!! I managed my eyebrows with tweezers but the rest omg, I'm dying here!! :errrr:

I'll have to watch threading videos on YouTube and try to DIY something because the current situation is NOT working for me.

I am not comfortable yet to do any of those things though TBH I never get my nails done/massages/tattoos anyway so not missing out on that and I get my hair cut once or twice a year so again not missing out on that either. Anything I deem as optional/not critical to my health is not worth risking a visit to do for me.

What I am debating is going to my dentist and or periodontist (if she opens because right now she is closed still) for my 6 month checkup. I was supposed to go every 3 months due to an issue I have but that appt was right in the middle of the pandemic and my next appt is in June but she is still closed. We are in NJ and the state is still basically shut down.

If she does open I might go as I don't want to go back to where my gums were last Autumn.

I have 2 medical appointments in June that I hope to keep and my DH has surgery planned in June and I hope the hospital allows him to get it done because right now it is all up in the air.

I don't judge others for going or not going. It is an individual choice that everyone can make for themselves weighing the risks vs benefits.

@missy, I am also dying to go see my dentist for a checkup and clean. I usually go every six months and i was supposed to go in Jan/Feb but we already had Covid cases here so I delayed my visit. Now, with the lockdown and the threat of the virus still hanging around, I don't think I will go any time soon. Just need to be even more meticulous with my oral hygiene routine.

Hope you and your DH manage to go to your medical appts and surgery as soon as it is safe to do so.

I'd like to go to the dentist and also get a massage. Not by the same provider lol. I do my own nails. Thankfully I have a sauna at home and I have a neck massage so I'm grateful to have these items. My teeth are getting yellow by my irish breakfast tea and red wine err.

I would have had a teeth cleaning and 2 doctor appts this coming week. So no cleaning for me. Doctors are doing phone calls. I hate talking on the phone and can't imagine how it will be with the rheumatologist who does mostly physical exams.

My sister had a teleconference with her Rheu last week; said it went well. But of course it was "just" a convo.

Oh, probably. But not for me.

I have been doing my own nails since Dec, so no appointments missed there.

The hair though: The salon was closed by the time my appointment in early April would have happened. My hairdresser is about to give birth, so I won't blame her if she delays her return as long as she can. The fact that my hair is now past my armpits and will be that much longer before I see her is entertaining.

Thank goodness for clips and elastics.

Here in Australia we can get our hair done and I have. She is local, I walk to her salon, and the rule is one client only in the salon. She wears gloves and sanitises all her equipment etc in any regard.
To me the biggest risk for infection would be Using public transport which I will avoid like the plague for at least a year!
I’m also keen to avoid any crowds Indoors irrespective of social distancing Requirements.
I also wouldn’t get on an airplane and fly anywhere.

Hair salon - No way. No one but my husband and dog see me anyway. Home haircuts aren’t perfect, but they’re good enough.

Nail salon - Never been to one. Paying to expose myself to chemical fumes, fungus, and now COVID? No thanks. Nail clippers and hand lotion are good enough.

Restaurants - No way, not even takeout. I can cook my own food at home. It’s better and healthier and cheaper. The Allrecipes website is great.

Grocery stores - Nope. Amazon Fresh/Whole Foods is my new grocery store.

Dentist - Not unless it’s an emergency. So far, so good. Religiously brushing and flossing. And avoiding my beloved popcorn for now.

Massage - Ha ha. No.

Tattoo - Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... (catching breath...) ha ha ha...

Doctor - This is my only dilemma so far. Had a gallbladder attack recently. Waited it out. Now on low fat diet. So far so good. But the gallbladder needs to come out fairly soon. Trying not to think about it.:confused2:

My dog really needs a grooming, but it’ll need to wait. She looks like a dirty Muppet, but that’s OK. She’s still adorable as heck

I just realized that I probably sound like my great-grandmother. But that’s OK. She made it through the Spanish flu, the Asian flu, the Hong Kong flu, and the polio epidemic and so did her kids. Many of her friends did not.

Better safe than sorry.

My hair will be two-toned with dark roots(but I only see two greys lol) and blond, straight, getting long-ish and I sooo wanted a fix before surgery tomorrow and subsequent radiation(chemo up in the air til pathology report) but looks like I'll be pony tailing it all summer. Nails are growing alarmingly well and I am enjoying a ballerina pink Chanel splurge nail polish right now....And my stylist(who I adore) is having a baby early June so I know she won't be returning to salon anytime soon...

Sending healing prayers to you, @pinklemonadegurl !

Thank you @SallyB . I appreciate the prayers so much. Surgery went well yesterday-NO cancer found in sentinel lymph node. I felt awful yesterday, awesome this morning, and now feel like I've been hit by a truck. Hair is still two toned lol but I am praising God for what looks like a very good prognosis. Thank you! The community here is so awesome, you're a gem!=)2

Fellow breast cancer survivor here.:wavey:I had a bilateral mastectomy last spring. Great news that your sentinels were neg. and you have a very good prognosis! Prayers for continued healing and for a low OncotypeDX score. All the best to you!

I had both my nails and feet done this past weekend, a lovely gift from my oldest son and his GF. They required mask, they sprayed down the table, seat, door handles after every person entered or exited. They made us wash our hands before, during and after treatment. They had one person assigned to cleaning duties to keep up with the process. Also we sat with empty chairs between each station. Only half the staff was working for that reason.

I am getting my bush whacked this coming Saturday. If they require that I wear a mask I will but otherwise I don't wear one. Mind you, I am in Houston and things aren't so bad here. My hair is just plain out of control!! :oops2:

Oh and word to the wise, the Salons are going to be bombarded when they open, so most are going to be Appointment Only. While I was there their phone was ringing off the hook with people calling in to see if they could walk in. I also had to pre-set my next appointment which will be in 3 weeks as their schedule was filling up fast. Book ahead folks!!
