hi everyone

as i have been doing research on rings, i''ve come across some articles saying that because of the greater demand for diamonds in the "magic sizes" (ex. 1 ct, 1.25 ct, 1.5 ct etc) some diamond cutters would rather cut their rough stones to these sizes even though the stone would be of better quality if cut to a smaller size. for this reason, do any of you avoid buying stones in these "magic sizes"? i am planning to get a stone in the 1.2-1.3 region and wonder if i should avoid stones that are 1.25, 1.2 and 1.3 cts. is this something i need to worry about if i go with a reputable vendor? (i plan on using a pricescope vendor) am i being too paranoid?

thanks for your input!

if you are using a PS vendor that provides IS/ASET images, no need to worry, although just going below the 1.0, 1.5c will give you the apparent size of these weight without the associated price/carat jump. 1.2-1.3 is safe, the price/carat increase is gradual.

I suppose some stores might carry stones cut to these magic sizes and the quality isn''t that good due to needing to keep to these sizes. However, most of us have been able to get well cut magic size stones from the vendors on PS. Meaning some/most (since I only look at a few PS vendors not all so can''t say for sure) PS vendors will make sure the diamonds are well cut regardless of size, so you shouldn''t worry if you find a reputable vendor.
