My husband does not want our dog (small to mid sized) anywhere near our bedroom or bed. I know alot of people who let their pets sleep with them. I was just curious what's 'normal'

Of course pets can sleep on/in the bed! Your husband makes me think of my grandfather [born in 1902]. My grandmother [born in 1903] had this nice orange cat [adopted stray]. My grandfather would not let the "dirty animal" anywhere near the bed. Of course, when I came to visit, the cat was very happy because he had somebody to sleep with! LOL!

Our cats have always been more than welcome on the bed.

No one sleeps with us. Mostly because we keep pur door closed at night so that if the kitties need to go potty they can''t get out. Every once in a while one be on the window sill behind the curtain and we don''t know that he/she is there and they get locked in. He/she will scratch at the side of the mattress until someone wakes up to let it out. Maybe I will try sleeping with the door open one night to see what happens. Maybe they want to sleep with us.

I LOVE that Boo (our 12 pound Ragdoll cat) sleeps with us! His favorite spot is up at the head of the bed, on the edge of the bed beside me. Yeeeees, sometimes having him there disturbs my sleep with his moving around, purring, bathing himself, jumping up and down, etc., but do I care? Nope! It's worth every bit of lost sleep, and more!

When DS was growing up, we had a 90 pound lab mix dog named Sasha who slept with him every night. He had a twin size bed and she was a big bed hog. Sometimes in the middle of the night, he'd call out, "Moooooooooooooom! Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad! Make Sasha move over and share the covers!!!" So we'd go into his room, and there'd be the dog, all sprawled out, wrapped up in all the covers, taking up 90% of the bed, and the poor kid hanging off the edge of the bed, shivering! But he loved it and wouldn't have had it any other way!

Nope. The parakeet and turtle don't sleep in our bed. If we had cats or dogs, they wouldn't either. My college roommate had a seeing eye dog that was supposed to sleep on the floor, but I would come home and catch him napping on my bed. Yuck to the German Shepherd doggie fur on my blankets. My roommate learned to keep our bedroom door shut during the day when she was home and I was at work to keep her dog off my bed. When we visit my in-laws, their cats are off limits from our room. Tough if they don't like it. Pets in my bed is just not my thing.

To the OP, I agree with your husband. He sounds completely normal to me.

My large, extra fuzzy orange cat O.P. will be your @sshat if you let him. He will curl up on your head, or your face, or your pillow above your head if he''s being polite. He will wait til you''re asleep and sneak up to your head- then you get to wake up to a face full of fuzzy cat butt. Fun! He also loves sleeping on my chest so he can headbutt me better.

Rat is very spazzy and will stomp and chirp for about a half hour or more before he''ll settle. Once he settles, he wedges himself between my knees for the night and is pretty peaceful after that. Though I do get stiff from having to stay in one position all night for the cat''s comfort.

Both also like to burrow beneath the covers, and Rat will then knead and drool for a while too.

So, sometimes they sleep with us, but often they don''t, since they''re awfully rambunctious. If they do snuggle in bed, they usually get kicked out in the wee hours, or howl to go out.

The new condo has a bedroom door that is GREAT for O.P. to pound on when he wants in our out. It sounds like a freaking kettle drum when he gets going on it. Not so restful. Rat is much more polite and merely howls endlessly

We love and spoil our 75 lb. Labrador to pieces but the one major rule is that she can''t be on the furniture including the bed. She has numerous very comfy dog beds around the house (last count 7!) and she''s happy to sleep in those day or night.
Same here.

My cat used to sleep with me, when I was single. But then DH came into the picture and he didn''t love the idea of him being in the bed. Little by little, I started to feel the same way.

As much as I love my cat (I prefer him over people most of the time haha) I actually like that we have our bed, and he has his. I get plenty of snuggle time when we watch TV - even though I end up with tons of hair on my shirt, and DH hates it, THAT we will NOT stop.

Our 50lb lab pup sleeps in the bed.

Before we adopted her, our kitties slept with us... Much to MY dismay. Our male cat licked my ears and kneaded my neck (His claws HURT!) and criiiied if I ignored him. He really disrupted our sleep.

I wish we hadn''t allowed to dog to sleep with us. She takes up a lot of room and is smelly! Plus my comforter is covered in dog fur. I''d actually work on getting her to sleep on the floor, but I''m afraid our male cat would return and I''d start to lose sleep once more.

Yep. We let our 60lb pit-bull sleep with us. She likes to be held and snuggled, which is so friggin adorable!

The dogs are allowed wherever the humans are allowed

However, we don''t sleep with them in our bed at night because, despite their small sizes, they make the bed crowded and I get really hot during the night if they''re there. My 2 dogs sleep in their crate, which is in our bedroom, and my boyfriends 1 dog sleeps on the floor/under the bed.

Fly Girl, you make me feel so much better now, that I''m not the only who feels this way.

I would NEVER allow any animal no matter how much I love them on my bed. I''m not germ phobic generally but most people don''t bathe their pets every day... Why is it OK for many people to allow pets on the bed, yet they are paranoid about germs everywhere else. Don''t mean to offend anyone but I''m really puzzled by this.

Pets that go outside, no. Indoor pets, yes, as long as they do go under the covers. It''s a matter of personal preference, really.

I would like for our kitties to sleep with us, but I am terrified of DH rolling over on one or squishing one in his sleep.

To the people who sleep with pets: don''t you worry about this? Have you ever accidentally rolled over on a pet?

B used to roll over onto Miglet every now and then.

We''ve got a 6" thick foam topper so it never hurt her any. I still worry about it and try to keep her right next to me so she is safe. She has started to stay up with the pillows recently so it is less of a problem.

I don''t have a pet at the moment, but my parents always had a no-pets-in-beds rule. This works well for us because my family has allergies, and we all feel better if pets stay out of the bedrooms. If DH and I get a dog, he or she will not be allowed to sleep with us.

Of course our pets sleep in our bed. They are our hairy, four-legged children
