DO Tiffany''s laser etch/brand their diamonds?

Im just curious about this...for authenticity. It would act as a deterrent if an opportunity came to swap a diamond during an appraisal right?
 
A 1.50ct Lucida which I bought from a few weeks back that has both a Tiffany report number and "Lucida" brand engraved on it. These engravings are simple enough and could be counterfeited, I suppose, but the level of interest in this product would nto seem to warrant the extra effort. Tiffany has their brand name on many different things and the strength of their branding varies depending on the product category. Lucida does not appear to be one of their strongest.
 
My SIL has the traditional T&Co e-ring. I know that on the inside of the ring band the size of the stone is engraved, along what a serial number I believe?

Their regular round stones are not branded.

I don''t know about the Lucida stone.

I don''t know why they would bother laser engraving the stones since most people who buy a T&Co ring go back to T&Co for sizing, service, etc, IMO it''s probably not worth the effort.

As Dave mentioned above, they are all about putting their name on a product as part of their branding, but I doubt they see any value in that if their name isn''t visible to the naked eye.
 
Yes, all the diamonds on their current engagement rings have a laser inscription on one of the crown facets. They started doing this a few years ago, so some rings that were purchased a while back may not have the laser inscription on them. There is also a serial number and carat weight inscribed on the inside of the band.

Are you thinking of purchasing a Tiffany ring?
 
I think T & Co believes their brand has value far beyond what the eye can see. They have perfected their version of the round "ideal cut" through much effort to give their stones a certain set of light return characteristics that their people felt represented what their brand was to look like. Brand is crucial to such firms and it extends into levels of thinking that us mere mortals cannot comprehend, so it seems. When they decide to laser inscribe a diamond with a brand name, they believe it has importance. We may miss the point, but I am sure that they felt there was a reason to do it.

Most diamond brands fail to be a true success or fail to mark their territory properly as a brand with real meaning. GOG is making progress with certain cuts and I have seen recognition of the Whiteflash ACA in many areas outside the internet. However, some of the highest volume "brands" are just diamonds with more facets and not really all that special. These will rise and eventually fall and not be long term "BRANDS".
When I think of a successful brand, I think of "Kleenex". Here you have a brand name synonymous with a paprer tissue product. Kleenex is dependable and consistent. It never fails to "pop up". It is always the same whiteness, softness and purity. It takes huge effort to keep it that way. That's a big part of what making and keeping a brand is all about. Few diamond brands have such care taken over long periods of time. T&Co may be an exception among the many who fail to brand properly.
 
Hi, yes I am new to the forum and am thinking of buying a Tiffany''s. They do seem rather overpriced, but it is my opinion that they offer a solid, quality product for the price.
