Some retailers are buyers of used jewelry. A plain wedding ring will be purchased for a percentage of scrap value in most cases. If there are small diamonds, they may bring a bit extra, but not a great deal. Such a ring is not worth more to trade in than to sell to most any legitimate buyer of used jewelry, so the trading in idea is not even a consideration. Find a ring you love and establish a price first. Then offer your "trade-in" and see how it goes. If you don't like the price offered, then sell the used ring to some other buyer. Of course, you will probably not like the prices second hand buyers offer, but the seconday market for used jewelry is very different than the new retail market and nothing will change that reality.
