I''m thinking about buying a 5 stone asscher cut ring with 30-40 pointers. The stones would be custom cut by the jeweler to match exactly. Should I have the stones certified by GIA before setting them into a ring? The vendor suggested that I have the stones appraised by an independent appraise instead of certified because of time and additional expense involved in sending the stones to GIA. I''m not really concerned with the time. The certification would add about 10% to the price of the ring.
Is it necessary to have the stones certified? If I ever decide to sell the ring, would the certificates give the ring more value vs. an appraisal?
