I didn''t want to high jack the other ball thread!!!!!

Just picked up my full eternity reset yesterday....its beautiful but a little tight..must be bloated at the moment. Its also been soooo hot here. Just managed too squeeze it past my knuckle and then it sits nicely so not too concerned.

I also have big knuckles and worse still the bottom of my ring finger to the pinky slopes down dramatically. The spinning of the ring is not the problem because there are diamonds all the way around it. Its the sidesways slanting if its too big thats the problem.
.
I called my jeweller this morning to talk about getting an appraisal for insurance on my rings. Told here I was in the middle of moving house. She warned me to take off my rings otherwise I may bash them around.

Do you think I could get the eternity ring off....NO! I started to panic , my fingers swelled up and the ring got stuck half way up my finger. My finger was turning blue. I finally got the ring off and rang the jeweller to tell her my problem. The jeweller suggested putting another diamond into the eternity band but I am still faced with the problem of it slanting sideways which will annoy me to no end.

So please help me find the best solution.

1. Put another diamond in and do small balls.
2. Remake the ring into a 3/4 eternity and put small balls in.

Running out of solutions here.

many thanks

I just read in one of the threads that I can possibly shave down the inside a little to get a little wiggle room. Would that be possible without ruining the setting and would I still need sizing balls then?

So many people looking at my thread about balls but no replies!

Hmm...well if it''s that hard to get on and off your finger, I personally would definitely get a diamond added and then put balls in. Although, what size are the diamonds in your eternity band? I guess adding a diamond could make the ring signifcantly bigger if they are large diamonds.

I don''t like the idea of shaving down the inside of a ring for some reason, though...

You are right I didn''t think of that.Adding another diamond may mean I can''t put my fingers together either side of the ring finger. It doesn''t seem like I have a solution at this stage.

Sparkles, my eternity band does tend to slip around a bit, both between my knuckles and also side-to-side as you mention. And at different times of the year--LOL, at different times of the DAY!--mine fits differently. Since you just got it yesterday let me suggest that you live with it as is for a little while and see what you think. You're being super attentative to it right now, which will make any issues possibly seem larger than they are. I have to say though that adding a diamond and sizing balls doesn't seem like you would be improving on the situation.

It will be the most snug when it is hot out. That''s around this time of year and in the months to come. I''d see how it goes for now because in the winter the ring will be looser. If it is too tight right now then get a diamond put in, but I''d sit on it a while and see how it fits from day to day first.

Since you mentioned it''s so hot, it''s likely that you are experience one end of the extremes on how your ring will fit in hot weather. This is likely as bad as it will get.

I''d recommend against making a permanent change until you know how it fits in extremely cold conditions, too (depending on what area of the country you''re in and how cold it gets there). If you change it now, it''s possible that your ring will be too loose (possibly to the point of possibly losing it), and that''s a worse scenario.

During hot weather, don''t try to force your ring off. Instead, run your finger under cold water to reduce swelling before removing it. If that''s not enough, add a touch of liquid soap or Windex. Between these things, that should help you get it off without a huge struggle.

This part of it (in quote above).....you may have to learn to live with that. You cannot change the structure of your fingers, and the truth of the matter is this: your hand is not a static object, so rings will move around as your hands do.

Better to reconcile yourself to the fact that the rings won''t ''lie perfectly'' all the time, in my opinion.

Congrats on your new ring!

hehe. I can''t stop giggling at the name of this thread...and then when you said "So many people looking at my thread about balls but no replies"

Dying.Here.

I agree with the idea of waiting to see how these next few weeks/months of summer affect your fingers. There doesnt seem to be a clear cut solution...but maybe the shaving and balls are a solution?!

stop.it.

I''m still dying. Can we call them blobs instead???

You can make a ring hinged like a bangle bracelet. It is a custom job, but can be nearly invisible. Then you open up the ring, put it on the finger and clsoe the ring up with a snap. It may replace one or two of the diamonds with metal segments, but it would mostly be unseen. The fit would be as perfect as it can be, but it will not slide off, only open up to be taken off.

My grandmother has arthritis, and one of her rings has this. It''s pretty nifty. Another thing that might be more comfortable than sizing balls would be a horseshoe sizer. Does anyone have a pic, it''s easier to describe these with a picture.

Hi Oldminer and KCoursolle.

Yes. saw those suggestions in another thread. Found the horseshoe sizer on jasmines thread, looks good. Will source it out.

Thanks alot

Re: thread title...Only if you''re in the market for a female to male sex change operation! ;-)

But seriously, folks...I have a similar problem with my knuckles. My engagement ring had to be big enough to get over my knuckles, but it ends up sliding around on my finger, both slanting back and forth and rotating side to side.

(I also have the unfortunate situation of having a freakish amount of webbing between my fingers, leaving my ring to sit about halfway between the base of my finger and my knuckle, but that''s another issue.)

Unfortunately, short of the "bangle" idea, which is actually pretty nifty sounding, there''s really no good solution. On top of this, heat makes fingers swell and cold makes them shrink (as previously mentioned), so your ring may fit totally differently at different times of year. I agree with the suggestion to avoid any permanent changes until you get a feel for it in different environments.

This thread has some pics with different options (shank pads, horseshoe, beads...):

I think the shank pads look the most comfortable.
