Ok. I ordered this ring off eBay with the plan to set my 1 carat oec in it and use the green stone in another setting. It’s a diopside and the seller didn’t disclose the inclusion in the diopside so I can return. The Issue is that these types of settings are hard to come by, and I don’t want to regret sending it back. Now, the other surprise is that I feel like it looks too small—not enough coverage or ummpphh. It will be a rhr, but, I already own a art deco rings—all about .60 or so—and I expected this ring to be much bigger than those. But I don’t know if I’ve lost all sense of size or if it really does look like my other art deco’s but with a larger stone.
The green stone is the ring in question. I will post my others after. The question is—does this ring look significantly bigger than my others? A5158A1E-E048-4ABA-9A2F-3F159872441F.jpeg

Do you like it? Are you likely to wear it often? It looks lovely to me.

I think you need everyone to tell you they like your stuff.

To answer your question @nala, I don’t think it looks out of place with your other rings or looks small. What might be throwing you off is the colored stone, perhaps a diamond would look bigger in the setting.

Either way it’s a pretty setting.

It’s a pretty setting but to me doesn’t look bigger than the others; comparable in fact. However it’s kind of hard to compare when you can’t see both settings on the same finger. Can you put the new setting on the same finger as one of the other ones? So we can see them together? What is the mm spread difference? If your main goal was to make it look larger then I’m not sure that goal was achieved. However it’s a beautiful setting and if the price was right then I would say it’s a keeper.

So my inspiration pic is this. I’ve been in life with setting inspiration pic since I discovered Art Deco and since laying eyes on one of my estate jeweler’s ering. I do realize hers is a 1.5 or so. Here’s the inspiration 8A1FC783-EAFB-4663-94E6-467D9B2CF8AD.jpeg

Everything looks PERFECT to me!!! Such beautiful pieces. Enjoy every second. I’m drooling over here!

Ty! These pieces got me addicted to Art Deco and I’ve never been able to go beyond the .65 carat mark! So I figured I would piece it together myself but now I’m afraid the size difference isn’t very discernible.

As an Art Deco fan, can you compare it to my inspo pic and tell me if you think this setting is as good as it gets? Or if you’ve come across any like my inspiration? The problem is that the one I’ve seen is being sold with the diamond.

My others rings are in the bank vault but I think you are right—I need to make a trip there to compare. How do you think it compares to my inspiration pic?

Also @nala I just love that Emerald ring.

Ty! And here’s the thing—I expected that this setting for my one carat would dwarf the emerald and now it seems that it’s gotta to be smaller!

You might be hard pressed to find a setting like the inspo without a diamond or with a colored stone you could easily swap out. So the question really becomes, would you be willing to buy a whole ring to get the look? If not then this setting will probably be as close as you can get. I’ll be happy to have a look and see if I can find anything close though :)

The chrome diopside ring is not (to my eyes) appreciably larger face-up than your other art deco rings -- only the center stone is larger -- if I were you, I would return it because the setting does not give you what you seem to be looking for (a larger overall face up look) -- FWIW the chrome diopside setting is nice enough but not as special or elegant as your inspo setting IMHO.

That would be awesome! But also, the whole budget is prob gonna be the deal breaker! I only paid 1300 for this ring! I have come close to this setting twice—but always for a different carat size.

I did find a whole ring that I fell in love with a few weeks ago. The stone was about 1.3 but with two chips along the girdle. The setting didn’t look like my inspiration but I was very tempted bc I did like it. Here’s some bad pics!

Okay, another thought or two, you’re probably going to spend a pretty penny if you can even find an empty setting so there’s that. Would you consider having the setting made? Again I know the thrill of a bargain but figured I would mention that possibility. That way you get exactly what you want.

Outside of that, I would probably keep this EBay setting once you verify your diamond will fit.

I almost think the other ring you posted (the one with the diamond in it) looks more similar to your inspo.

Your post popped up after I replied about possibly having a setting made….$1300 is a pretty good price for an Art Deco setting.

Is it totally gauche of me to ask how much the 1.3 was? If so just ignore the question lol!

I tried going that route a few years ago and was too cheap to pull the trigger, lol. Will sit on this. Ty

Not at all!!!
I like that we can discuss prices here—as they do factor in! 3600 out the door. But the chips that I can see make me wonder about the ones that I may not be able to see—behind the prongs. The setting is made up of old mine cuts and they are so yummy! The other reason I didn’t jump on it is that it sits high—and is prob not wear it as much bc of that.

Makes sense, I only ask to get a reference point to compare similar rings, I’ll let you know if I find anything close.

It's a gorgeous ring/setting but...I'm sad to say that it doesn't look significantly bigger than your other rings. (I really like it though).

Hi,

Colored stones have different densities and can weigh more or less than a diamond, for its size. You can't compare them. The .60 emerald will be bigger than a .60 diamond. So you are seeing correctly, but the emerald will be larger. Thus a 1 carat diamond may look the size of a .69 emerald, and whatever the diopside is, the same applies. Your eyes aren't lying to you.
