Hi everyone,

I’ve been waiting a few weeks for what I thought was going to be photos of a wax version of my ring. So when I clicked on my email and it showed glamour shots of my ring I was surprised and of course very excited!
I love the ring overall but I have a few concerns.

I’d be so grateful if you could run your eyes over these pics and see if you agree with or could alleviate my concerns.

My concerns are:
1) on the bottom left on the front view image it looks like there is a bigger gap between the diamond melee and something else strange going on. I didn’t know if it was a fault with the photo but it seems to be in the other photos too.

2) the top right prong looks a little wonky to me

3) the metal bezel looks quite thick to me depth wise (I hope this makes sense!). I would like it to look daintier but I’m assuming the ring would need to be remade to achieve this and so is it too late to change?

Thanks everyone! A609E894-1047-4BA3-AE5E-6B27D3F4DFAD.jpeg E157C3E3-752B-42B3-BF60-8A92752065C7.jpeg FE62EBA4-B559-491B-8724-FBBFDEEA4C28.jpeg 3072C41E-114A-4FD9-94B0-9A7F7DE9ACCE.jpeg

1. I agree—It looks like on the other corners there are three prongs (two from the melee and one beneath the prong) in that space and there are no prongs on the bottom left corner.
2- I agree that the angle of the top right prong looks off.
3. To me, the thickness of the bezel looks fine, but it’s worth bringing up if it bothers you.
Sorry that I can’t offer advice, but I just wanted to validate that I saw the issues that you pointed out.

I don’t really see too much issue with the bezel thickness or the right prong. There are times when the prong is sitting on a facet and it might have to shift slightly. These are really blown up pics and you are not likely to notice how small this is IRL. The thickness of the bezel looks pretty standard to me as far as having to set diamonds into a halo.

The one thing I could not live with is the number of pave stones around the bezel. It looks like they either miscounted or the gaps weren’t spaced properly for the pave so they did’t have enough space in that left corner to fit one more. They compensated by making the prong bigger but it is still pretty obvious with the gap there. For that reason, they would either have to redo the head or recast the ring.

I do wonder if any of the issues noted would have been seen/able to be addressed in the wax you were waiting to see?

I can’t figure out what’s going on at the left hand side. I circled and put arrows; it almost looks like photoshop bc that smudge goes over one of the melee stones. I would definitely ask about it. How is it that you didn’t get a wax? Normally if you request one he mails it to you.

The prongs holding the centerstone are definitely wonky - they don’t all face inward the same. That should be an easy fix.

I don’t think the bezel/metal outline around the centerstone is overly thick, but I suppose that’s personal preference.

There’s something funky happening in that lower left corner of the halo. I saw it right away as well. I’m not sure WHAT though - ditto @Mreader, it really does looks more like an image editing oops than a physical artifact. Which I’m confident is not actually the case. You’ll want to ask about that, for sure.

There are 5 melee diamonds across the top, 5 down the right side, 5 across the bottom and 5 going down the left side. But the right side melee are progressively shifting ever so slightly downward when compared to the position of their counterpart on the left side. It’s almost like the 5 melee going down the vertical on the right side are bigger or are spaced farther apart. Is this then resulting in a bigger gap between the bottom melee on the left and the left-most melee on the bottom?

The top center melee stone and the bottom center melee stone do seem to be in the same relative position so it seems like the wonkiness is limited to the bottom left corner.

That lower left corner looks like the metal before it’s worked on bead/bright set. IMO.
yeah - agree the melee wasn‘t spaced out correctly/sized right and was left with that gap. Put a larger prong in, leave the nonworked metal and voila? Done for the day? LoL
the prongs can be adjusted - not quite sure if you would have noticed anything of the prongs and melee issues with a wax in hand.
the bezel height thickness - I don’t think it is overly thick, but I would have tilted it a bit down rather than it being flat plane horizontal (almost looks concave ‘cupped’) - but that’s just another personal preference.
if it bugs you - mention the issues. See what can be fixed and what it entails. I don’t see this being a rework job. I see it as a redo.

I’m still confused as how metal can spill over onto the diamond like the first picture I posted with the arrow. That’s why I didn’t know if there was something Photoshop involved? Otherwise why would it look like that? It reminds me of when you’re trying to erase some thing with a computer program.

But the second picture the OP posted of the stone on an angle shows the same wonkiness in that bottom left corner as the first picture with the ring facing forward. Why would both pictures be photoshopped in the same way?

Either way I’m confident David will rectify the situation even though it means it will take longer to receive your ring. It is beautiful and deserves to be finished in a high quality manner.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the input. It’s my first time having a ring designed so this is all new to me and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I’ve emailed David, I’m just waiting on a reply now.

DK has got back to me. He says he is going to straighten the prongs and ‘fill in’ the metal. I’m not really sure what he means by this but I’ve said that I’m happy for him to try this and see how it looks. I’m now waiting anxiously to see any changes..

Nope.. no..uhnt..uh.. no. I understand that claw prongs are an art form, and that they need to mostly be shaped by hand, by the goldsmith. But I literally used a sheet of paper and freehand with the mouse/paint program just to view the angles of the proportions/symmetry of where these prongs were going. Don't let them send it out. And that's on top of the issue happening in the lower left corner that @Mreader pointed out.

So in the end DKJ remade my ring and I am much, much happier with the remake! Thank you all for your advice.
Here are the new pictures he sent me:

I’m so sorry to point this out, but I feel in the interests of people who will continue to read this thread years after the fact - it needs to be said. The rework isn’t “much better” or “perfect” by any means!!

Now the top left prong is lopsided, much fatter then the others and too short. That bottom left corner metal work still looks like something sloppy is happening. This is not the quality of workmanship I would expect from someone so highly praised on PS and with so much experience.

Maybe it’s just the pictures; do you have the ring in hand and are those discrepancies I pointed out above, actually present in real life?

I saw this on DKs Instagram and, I swear, my jaw dropped! That center stone is stunning! And the halo makes it pop in all the best ways.
