I’m so happy with this custom ring and CVD diamond from Distinctive Gem. Here is a glamour shot of a 1.21ct G VVS2 August Vintage round set in a size 6.5 unplated white gold custom setting by @Rhino

The unplated white gold is lovely. It changes color depending on the light — sometimes looks like a buttery yellow, sometimes looks like a warm grey silver metal.

@Rhino custom designed the setting. I elected the CAD Stuller standard setting as opposed to the master bench handgraving, The cost savings was $800+. The main difference was the size of CAD milgrain. The Stuller standard only went down to 0.5mm. Hand engraving could be more subtle. I was a little apprehensive because I did not want the ring to look like the Shrike from Hyperion. But as you can see the CAD milgrain is is less pronounced than you might think for 0.5mm. Also it does not chafe on my hand. Here is the CAD versus the final outcome:

I actually got the unplated WG because the diamond was graded by IGI, whose color grading is sometimes a little generous and their G could be an H or I under GIA standards. I figured an unplated setting might make an H or I look brighter. But this diamond is a nice bright white. That is probably due to the awesome light return of an AVR.

This CVD diamond does not have any brownish hue. There may be some stria at 40x magnification but it does not appear to affect light return or clarity. Notably there is no post-growth treatment by HPHT that might create a hazy film type of look. Plus you know a DG has been vetted by @Rhino

8D68D43E-102B-45BB-8BCA-6FD7FB8B4DC0.jpeg

Plenty of fire and pastel reflection from this chunky OEC.

And the AV OEC has a spread similar to a MRB, which means the diamond looks bigger than other OECs of similar carat weight.

Thanks again @Rhino and thanks everyone for looking.

Ha! I wondered who snapped up that lovely diamond... I was between that one and my 1.08 ct G VVS2 and decided to go smaller/closer to 6.5mm. I love the unplated white gold.

I don't feel like the IGI G grading for my lab AVR is that generous; the video looks similar to (and sometimes whiter than) the AGS Gs on the DG website captured under the same conditions (though some say AGS is lenient on color too).

Thanks. I love rose gold and this ring will pair with rose or yellow gold. Or worn alone it can pass as silver. Very versatile

Yay. I would have thought about the 1.08, too. I normally don’t like stones above 6.0mm but I have a 5.8mm OEC and cannot see the facets well without glasses. Agree that 6.5mm is a good size. Glad to hear your IGI G looks white. Maybe IFI has gotten better. I had an IGI I back in the day and… nope…

Beautiful!!!❤

Thank you both.

Hope to see more and more LGD old cuts on this forum.

 It's a beautiful ring.
Can I ask the mm size? The proportions are great.

Thanks. Ring size 6.5.

The diamond is about 6.7 mm diameter.

The shank I don’t know, but here is the ring next to a 1.7mm comfort fit ring. For reference the marquis is about 9.5 mm x 3.5 mm and K color if anyone is wondering.

What a lovely ring and OEC! Can I ask which white gold did they use…14 or 18K? I really like the look.

So… I love this diamond so much that I was wearing the ring to the exclusion of my other rings. I would get up the morning and think, which ring to wear? And I’d pick out something that matched my mood or my outfit. Then I would inevitably decide that I wanted to spend the day staring at this diamond instead so I would put back the other ring and wear this one.

I tried wearing it on my pointer finger but the setting was about a size too small. It has milgrain on every possible surface so re-sizing would have been a problem.

I didn’t want to put this diamond in a pendant because either I wouldn’t be able to see it, or I would be wearing a 30” chain and picking it up all day and staring at it like a weirdo.

Inspiration struck: how about a bracelet? Then I could wear the diamond every day, stare at it less conspicuously than if it were a pendant, and still wear my other rings. So off the diamond went to a local jeweler for a single-station bezel makeover.

The bracelet was lovely. I had it sized as short as possible to avoid flipping, which was successful for the most part. And I wore it every day. But another problem arose. I work in air conditioning so I wear long sleeves. So I hardly ever saw the diamond.

Well I think I have found a solution. A new low-set bezel ring I can wear on my middle finger. Setting is 2mm comfort fit 14k plated WG in a loose size 9.

Very comfortable, goes with any outfit, plays well next to my other rings, and fits in stacks.

This beguilingly beautiful AVR is the only diamond where I wish I could get a bigger one. DG does have an upgrade policy but unfortunately there is nothing available right now at the required price point. I will happily stare at this diamond while I wait.

Update: Bezel reset was a success. I wear it every day yet my other rings don’t get neglected. Wanted to add some mani photos and some diffused lighting.

First mani since COVID.

Diffused lighting still works in a bezel.

OMG, I LOOOVE the necklace! I went to look on the other thread and it's beautiful! I absolutely LOVE it and love how sentimental it is! Can you show where the dangle is? Like, when on your neck is it in the back then?

Thanks… I don’t post too many pics of myself, though
