Hi there,

Thank you all for the very informative threads that this forum has provided, it has certainly helped this newbie proposal diamond ring purchaser gain some knowledge!

I hope I am not repeating another thread (only did a cursory search!) but nevertheless I hope I could get some advice about the utility of the different cuts (or even availability) at smaller diamond sizes. Specifically, I was wondering about Brellia (cushions) and whether they are available at smaller carat weights hovering around 0.5ct.

Whilst I started out looking at ideal round brilliants around this carat weight, I then discovered the Brellia cushions which offer similar optical properties (?) to the round brilliants and provide a unique shape. I reckon, if I decide on using a four prong pave setting (haven't fully settled on that) on a round brilliant, it may end up having a similar, more squarish look just like the princess/cushion, hence I am wondering what your thoughts are on this matter, especially since the ~5mm measurements may limit the numbers/types of fancy cut diamonds available?

At the same time, I suppose the higher facet cuts for rounds (eg. Solasfera) would look a bit busier on a diamond of such a size?

Thank you all for your time and advice!

yes, brellia cushions are available in that carat weight

but the selection is much more limited than with rounds. i have one (1.108 ct) and love it!

Thanks a lot for the reply slg47! Your ring (the signature picture I reckon!) looks amazing! I hope the smallish ones (I'm looking at half your carat weight) would look great still and has enough spread to show off the brilliant cuts (am I even using the appropriate terms? :twirl:).

Hopefully they (the Briellas) will have a larger selection somewhere besides on goodoldgold, otherwise it would be the more usual rounds at that carat weight then!

I am not sure who besides GOG carries the Brellia cut. GOG also carries the princess of hearts and jubilee which are similar, and Brian Gavin carries the quadex. you might want to look into those options?

Thsnk slg47! I have been looking into those options you suggested as well. Rounds, cushions, princesses, all of them look brilliant! :twirl:

I think all the stones mentioned are beautiful, but at that carat weight, I'd go for the one with the most spread for the weight, and I am guessing that will be the round brilliants.

If you really want a Brellia, then call Good Old Gold and see if they can source you others from the cutter if you don't see one you like.

Thanks diamondseeker2006! You are quite right, at the carat weight I'm looking, it looks like round brilliants are the way to go. I guess the tug factor is the uniqueness about the Brellia cut! Nevertheless, I may have found a round which I should create a new topic of to ask for opinions!

Thanks for the advice diamondseeker2006! Everyone's been so helpful here! =)

Excited to see the stone in question!
