DID I MAKE A MISTAKE?

I bought a princess cut diamond 2 days ago, in the diamond district in NYC.
Here are the specs:

1.35 ct
E color
SI1 clarity
77% table
63% Depth

It looked great to me until i read all this stuff about table having to be smaller than depth. The jeweler told me as long as it in the range of a good stone I'm fine, he said the combination isn't a big deal. I am not sure if he is just saying that to me to get me off the phone or what.

Well, the depth really isn´t huge for the princess... But whether or not you made a mistake depends on more factors... for exemple on how much did you pay for it and of course whether you like the stone. Of course the cut could be better, but it doesn´t necessarily mean you made a mistake.

If you look at the ACAs that Whiteflash has, the table is almost always smaller than the depth. I prefer a smaller table so
you dont get that big block of glare that you get from a large flat surface. Some of my favorite princess cuts are solasferas
and they have very small tables.

I'm guessing you were not able to get an aset image of the stone? How much did you pay? Is it still returnable?

Who graded it, and can you post a certificate number if you do have one. I see a red flag on the depth. Usually a well cut princess is in the 70's but... let's get the certificate information first.

I called a blue nile diamond expert and they told me the depth and table doesn't mean much as long as there are in the very good range.

Is this true? I been getting so much different information.

Is my stone good? I bought it for about 8500.

While it's true that numbers don't tell the whole story with princess cuts, a depth that's particularly low and a table that's particularly high high are red flags. I personally believe a 77% table is too high. My preference is for a table below 70%. Also, the extremely thin girdle is of concern as it may put the stone at risk for breakage. Even if only for this last fact, I would return it and start over.

Thin girdle + those crack-prone corners princesses have... I wouldn't be too comfortable with that.

Ditto, stick with girdles from thin to slightly thick, no extremely thin or thick. I would definitely return.

The 77% table and thin girdle are both good reasons to return the stone. You could do much better than this.

I can only exchange. I am going to go back today and check out other stones.

The stone is very nice but I think if i had a smaller table it would have more fire. Right?

Also the extremely thin girdle is freaking me out now, even though it set very low so its pretty much safe but i dont want to take my chances.

The depth is 67.5, table 77? I am thinking to look for a table btw 65 and 74? depth around the same?

I wish i would of known about the table depth before i bought this I am afraid they will charge me a lot more to make the improvements.

Should i go a bit smaller than 1.34 in order to get better table and girdle?

Is looks like a 1.5 that why im guessing it dude to the larger table. The larger table is sacrificing the fire? It has tons of white sparkles just not enough fire.

table and depth are only two measurements so they really don't tell you much about the performance. generally with a princess cut look for table smaller than the depth. also take it in different lighting and see what appeals to you

no, you shouldn't necessarily exclude princesses where the table is larger than the depth...again, those are only two numbers and do not tell the whole story. that is a general guideline but of course images/ASET will tell more about the cut. some people prefer a larger table...I would go to the jeweler, compare many different diamonds in different lighting, and see what appeals to you. if your jeweler has any princesses graded by AGS, ask to see some that get AGS0 for light performance.

He actually showed me a book with all of his princess cutz and let me pick the ones i wanted to see.

The table is big but the stone is actually very nice.

Is it strange that it shines super turbo at night with no light is that a bad sign. I mean it look like a glitter ball at night.

No, it is not a bad sign skyler, disco ball at night is a good thing. We have offered what advice we can via the internet, but you have seen the diamonds and it is your money. The girdle is likely safer on this stone.
