Has anyone bought any diamonds from the website Diamonds USA. Are they reliable? Prices are really good.
I am currently looking at the following diamonds:

1.27cts, round, H, SI1, Tolkowsky cut, Clairty Enhanced, EGL certificate $3600

or

1.01cts, round, G, VS2, Tolkowsky cut, EGL certificate $5400

Any views on these diamonds.

I am buying from the UK so I have to be careful with returns etc. They have a 10 day return policy and credit cards are not charged until the goods have been received.

Prices good? Sometimes too good.

Clarity enhanced? I wouldn't recommend that.

Tolowsky cut...no real such thing in terms of reality....EGL sometimes inscribes their stones with this but it doesn't mean a thing nowadays. I can almost guarantee that these stones don't have Tolowsky proportions (not that you'd want them to). It's a marketing term IMO.

What is the other information on the stones? Table, depth, crown and pav angles? That will tell you more about the stones and how they look in person.

A stone is not a stone is not a stone. Diamonds each have their own personality. Getting more information on them will help you determine if you like that personality and want to take it home with you.

If you are willing to pay $5400 for a 1c stone, I wouldn't do it there...not that they are bad...but there are other vendors who will give you more information on a stone, non clarity-enhanced, for same $$. Better cut probably.

Good luck!

The proportions on the 1.25 are depth 61.8, width 55%, crown height 15%, pavillion 44%

The proportions for the 1ct are depth 63%, width 55%, crown height 15%, pavillion depth 43%.

Why do you not recommend clarity enhanced diamonds?

Yikes well first off neither of these stones are worth pursuing in my opinion, their cuts are not good.

The first stone gets a 3.7 on the HCA with 3 goods. The second stone gets a 4.1 with 2 goods. The depth on the second stone is WAY out of line at 63% and their pavilions are off.

Run a search on clarity enhanced stones and read up. Here is one thread:

Again, for $5500 you can have a stellar 1c WELL CUT stone G/H SI. Keep shopping.

These are some of the online ones I found:

1.05c G SI1 Hearts and Arrows 1.3 EX HCA: $5450

1.01c G SI1 H&A 0.8 EX HCA: $5286

1.01c H SI1 H&A 1.7 EX HCA: $4871

1.03c H SI1 AGS0 0.6 EX HCA: $5025

All are cheaper than the 2nd stone they are offering you and hands down 100% better cuts.

Those stones are graded by EGL Israel. That could be a serious problem. Apart from that, I would probably go with a natural, untreated J/SI stone.

Hi
Thanks for the info - everythin is so complicated.

Where did you source the diamomds you suggested? I need to shop to Scotland (UK) so I can only purchase on line from companies that are prepared to do this.

What is the problem with the EGL Israel certificate?

I would not use an EGL Israel cert. to wipe my butt on...only EGL USA are accurate--and even then, get a second opinion on color/clarity.

I got the stones I posted here:

It's the Pricescope search engine which only searches for well-cut stones based on excellent HCA scores. Kind of like a weeding out of the chaff. Put in your parameters and off you go.

Good luck!

Diamonds USA.. AVOID THEM.. if you want to return or exchange something they will give you such a hassle and run around and also charge you hundreds of $$$ for the experience... I have now paid nearly $800 for a $599 setting on their website and I have never received it, only many emains with excuses. 10 day evaluation is too short (most online dealiers give 30 days...) and they don''t care much if you are happy once they have your payment. Diamond quality was so-so, but what is an S!2 in Israel is obviously vastly different than what is an SI2 in North America.. Approach with extreme caution! I spent nearly $5000 with these folks and have regretted it immensely.
