Hello Everyone,

I am SO EXCITED about this purchase I am about to make from James Allen.

I have been searching fervently for the perfect diamond stud earrings for my sister, she is getting MARRIED

and she plans to wear the studs for her wedding!

The diamonds are Princess shape, 1.09 ctw, premium cut, F-color, and SI2 (which I was assured are eye-clean because Jim found them).

I will purchase them Monday or Tuesday (they are on hold), once my sister decides if she wants the martini settings from JA or from a local store.

I am going to attempt to post the pics and the info for any last minute advice.

ASET image?

I didn''t request one. Do you think I should before purchasing them? Does James Allen even do ASET images?

ya, JA do ASET now for fancy cuts. I would request it as no way good way to judge the cut of a princess based on numbers or the loupe image.

Thank you so much for the info!

I will definitely request an ASET image from JA and I will post the pics for more opinions. I love this site, I am always learning something new!

Hi Meredith

An ASET image is always needed for fancy shapes if available and JA have been offering this service recently which is very good news.

Post the image when you get it then we can go from there.

I will definitely attach the ASET images as soon as I get them. I requested them yesterday so hopefully by the end of the day Tuesday I will have them posted.

So, are ASET images only available for fancy shapes (not round)? I believe an ASET image is suppose to let us know about light return in the diamond. What else does it do? What is the difference between an ASET and an Idealscope?

JA only supply ASET for fancy shapes, some vendors offer IS and ASET for rounds too, it depends on the vendor. Basically ASET is used to analyze light return and Idealscope light leakage, read morehere on ASET and Idealscope and what they do.

JA only does ASET for fancy shapes or they will be overwhelm with request if rounds are included too. ASET just breaks down the light source into 3 parts rather than 2 of the IS. For ASET the red being more intense light source and green less intense, IS groups them all together as light return.

An ASET in a fancy shape is at this point in time the most complete information, that can be used to assess a stone online.

I personally prefer to use in combination with either the actual pic or the IS of the stone, since both the photography and the assessment of ASET-pics is tricky. Especially in fancy shapes, with the variety of possible patterns, it is not easy to assess an ASET.

Many people tend to look mainly at the presence of red only, but I think that the overall pattern and an assessment of where the red, blue and green areas are located, are just as and probably more important.

Unfortunately, that is where the possibilities of online-assessment end. In real life, I also find a tilted assessment of the ASET informational; this is also part of the AGS-metric for their cut-grade.

Still, we need to remember that this still limits the information to an indication of brightness and possibly symmetry. Fire as such is not part of this assessment, and probably demands a real-life-judgment. Also, scintillation-potential is difficult to impossible to judge based upon online-tools.

Sorry if I took this partly OT, but these were just things I thought of, while reading Lorelei''s and Stone_cold''s posts.

Live long,

Well, there is this recent thread from Garry.

This...added on to what I suppose is the video work consistent with this that Jonathan has been doing for some time now at GOG.

Not specifically intending to be a pain in the ass...but it seems this presentation of movement is something of a revelation to me.

You do say:

I suppose it's good to hear it's part of the AGS metric; maybe better to see it myself.

Regards,

Folks,

The ASET images for the two diamonds were completed and sent to Meredith a few minutes ago. We corresponded with AGS again last week and they gave us some suggestions on how we might remove some of the "intensity" in the images, so hopefully these are the most accurate we''ve seen so far.

My comments were a reactions to Paul''s, and not so helpful for this poster; sorry Meredith...

Any last minute suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated. I think I am going to make my final decision tonight...with (hopefully) some help from fellow pricescopers

.

I don''t know how to "read" an ASET image, yet. Still learning. However, it does look comparable to the above average diamond on the High Performance link Lorelei posted.

Thanks.

I think they are pretty diamonds Meredith, not cut to the highest standards but still to me attractive Princess.

Hello again everyone,

I just wanted to update everyone. I decided to purchased the diamonds from James Allen. They will be set in the handmade martini setting by JA. I think they are pretty diamonds and will look great set as diamond stud earrings.

I want to thank everyone for all of the help I received. Purchasing diamonds can be a frustrating process, especially for someone who is still learning all the little details that make a difference when purchasing a diamond.

The information was very helpful (although I did not understand everything Paul and Ira were talking about

).

So, again thank you.

Good luck. :)
