I''m not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I could use some advise. I have a 1.76ct diamond and I would like to have a ruby with a diamond halo, Leon Mege style instead. How would I go about making this exchange? Many Thanks.

many factors at play here: where did you buy it. will they buy it back. is it a certified stone? what is it worth? if its a top notch stone I would try to sell it yourself. perhaps Leon could go about brokering it for you and getting you a ruby. Many IFs...

Hi Tracy and welcome,

It might be a good idea to repost this in Coloured Stones, the posters there might be able to suggest some places you could look for a good quality ruby. As to the diamond, it can unfortunately be difficult to resell yourself and also it is usual to only recoup around 30 - 50% of what you originally paid. This article will give you some ideas how to sell your diamond.

Hi,
I upgraded my diamond to a ruby this year after 29 years, and I have put the diamond away for now until I decide what I want to do with it. I originally thought I would wish to switch back and forth, but that has not happened. Someday, I might change my mind about wearing the diamond, or one of my children might want the diamond, or I might want a diamond pendant made from the stone. My advice would be to put the diamond in the safe for a while to be sure you make the right decision.
