my bf and i have been searching for decent sized (and priced), everyday wearable diamond studs. so far i like the look of the 3/4tcw on my ears. we went to jewelers row in chicago to a well-known place and they have a few pairs, just wanted to know if these are a good deal.
0.64 tcw G SI1 $700
0.75 tcw G SI1 $1k

you can''t really tell the difference size-wise between 0.65-0.75tcw, right? (so per ear 0.325ct vs 0.375ct)

also, they said they dont certify any of the studs b/c it would add ~$500 to the total cost but they have a lifetime upgrade policy. does that sound right?

any other good places to look? we''re looking to spend < ~$700 for 0.68-0.75tcw.

thank you in advance!

How fun to be diamond stud shopping.

Do you like the quality of the $700 pair? Is upgrading them something you would do someday? I would say if the answer to those 2 questions is yes it is probably a good deal for you. IMO certs are not necessary for earrings.

I''d be okay with buying from this vendor without certs at these sizes, once I''ve taken the diamonds into a variety of lighting situations and checked them out, for this reason. If they stand by their stones with a lifetime upgrade policy, while they may not be of the best cut, they''re probably pretty good

thanks for your advice~
no certs dont bother me at this size but upgrades are def in my future and would want it to be certified later on. so i can just get it appraised later, right?

how much do you think we can negotiate considering it''s not certified?

Hi EC

I would suggest looking at www.welladorned.com who are in Chicago. The vendor Jonathan is a great guy and it would be well worth you contacting him to see what he can come up with for you.

As to whether these are a good deal or not, without a reliable grading report its anyone''s guess.....

Are these set earrings, or just the diamonds? Also, how do they look to you?

If you do not have a grading report, then how do you know what you are buying? If you feel that the local jeweler is as accurate as GIA or AGS in grading, then go for it.

yeah, the longer i thought about it, the more i realized i do want them to be certified for future upgrades plus to make sure we''re getting wat we (he) pays for.

so i found a local jeweler and saw their loose diamond stock and made an excel sheet of very similar, if not exact same, diamonds i found on pricescope so we''ll have a better idea of what price we can get them for. pricewise, there wasn''t that big of a differnece to get diamonds with certifications, at least for the sizes im going for, maybe $200? but i feel much better about this.

they would be just earrings. we''re going to make an appt w/the jeweler sometime today, so i''ll get to see what they have in person.

thanks for the help!! i''ll let u know wat we decide on!

lorelei- will take a look there as well, thanks!

Can''t wait to see what you pick!

we went today but sadly did not see anything i looooved and im tired of looking.

so my bf said if im willing to wait a lil longer, he''d get me a bigger set ~1.0ct. so i will gladly wait

although we didnt get anything for now, it was a good experience going into jewelry stores/making appts/making charts of competitive stats & prices.

thanks for everyone''s help & advice!!
