I have wanted diamond stud earrings for years. My husband is not into jewelry so I''ve decided to save for them. I''m trying to figure out my options, sizes, etc. One thought I have had is to get cz''s in a really good setting (maybe from Wink Jones?) and then replace them in a couple of years with real diamonds. I''m trying to figure out what size I should get.

So this is what I would like to know:

What is the most common size of round diamond stud earrings?

I don't think the poll is working. my studs are 1.50 tcw. I got them from bluenile a couple years ago. wish I had gotten them somewhere else so I could've upgraded. GL!

edit: Now it's working for me! I say 2ct!!!

I love your avatar, Miss Fortune! Well, I would love it more if they were on my hands.... pretty sparklies!!

You'll get responses for every size since people here have every possible size studs! Mine are .75 each, but I'd love to have a little pair, too!

What size is your e-ring diamond? That is generally how I'd recommend the size of the studs.

(In regard to the simulants, I'd just buy those anywhere (as cheaply as possible) and have your real diamonds set by the place where you buy the diamonds. Wouldn't bother with a reset. You might need the others for vacation or something.)

Mine are 80+ pointers each, but I have big fat lobes.

I have tiny lobes so when I do get diamond studs I only want about .25ct - .35ct each

Mine are .35 each (.70ctw) and they''re perfect! I''ve had bigger, and I''ve had smaller, and these are the perfect size for me.

I currently have .75 pointers on each lobe. But my preference/dream would be 1 ct. each. So I voted for 2 ctw.

Well-cut, temporary CZ''s in high quality setting is a great option! I went that route as well before I had my .75 pointers.

mine are .50 total weight.

Hi diamondseeker2006,
You bring up a lot of good points! My ering that I am having remade (I lost it a few months ago). The center diamond was a .91 carat. My right hand ring has a 1.5 oval cut. The rings are pretty good sized with pave, round and bagettes.

Thanks for the advice!

Then I would suggest that a very nice size studs would be 1 ct. total weight. That is possibly the most commonly desired size for people with rings in the 1 to 1.5 carat range, although you can certainly go larger or smaller.

I think the biggest problem I am having with this issue is not necessarily size... the problem is having to wait so long to get them. I might have to have my ears re-pierced because I haven''t been wearing anything. I''m pretty picky and I only want the real thing. I would settle for a really good fake but only for a little while. In the meantime I am torturing myself with pricescope and its vendors! I''m starting to realize that I am an all-or-nothing type of gal (though I''m trying to be flexible with the cz temps).

Well, one option is to start with smaller studs from a company like WhiteFlash who will allow you to trade-in your stones at the full value you paid for them. But when you upgrade the size, you''ll have to buy new settings more than likely. So if you could buy smaller ones (such as .60 total weight) and then be happy with those for a few years and then trade-up, that is a nice option.

That''s a great idea! The only thing I am worried about is that years ago I wore gigantic dangling earrings (remember the 80s?) and my holes have stretched out. I stopped wearing earrings because I really don''t like anything but diamond studs. The backs of the holes have closed so I will have to have them re-pierced. In the past, small earrings disappear into my stretched out holes. I think that even after getting re-pierced it will continue to happen.

Still... I''m going to look into an upgradeable stone.... thanks again for all your advice!

If you are worried about stretched holes, then I would not choose the martini settings that are very popular here. They may sink into and stretch the holes even more. Stick with the 4 prong basket setting that has a flat, round base.

Holy cow-- you are psychic! I was just looking at a martini setting. I live far away from friends and family .... no girlfriends here.... so I REALLY appreciate your input!

Lol! I am just a Pricescope addict and I have read a million posts! So it is just collected knowledge over time!

And many of us do not have real life friends who like jewelry, so this is a really fun place to hang out!

What I have and what I prefer are two different things

I have two piercings in each ear and my studs are .42 ct each. I would love to have .75 ct each in my lower piercings, but I don't see that happening anytime soon! That being said, the studs I have now look very nice as they are

I have .66 ctw that I wear several times a week. I think they are the perfect size for everyday wear, especially with how casual I dress. I''d love to have 1.2-1.5 ctw for smarter occasions, but don''t think I''d ever get rid of my .66.

I also have .66 ctw and think it is a great size (I have small ears though). My ideal size probably would be 1 ctw though. I know I will upgrade someday.

I have 1.0 ctw and they are the perfect size for my second holes. I wear danglies in my first holes. If I only had one set of holes and wore one set of earrings I would probably go larger at 1.5 - 2.0ctw.

I think I misunderstood the question

.

My studs are 1/3 each.

I wish that I had 1ct each (min

).

Because of the way my earlobes are shaped and the fact that they''re pierced really low, I can''t wear anything bigger than about .25 each. I don''t even have any yet, but the fakey ones I wear are about that size and I couldn''t go any bigger, which is good for the budget!

I like DS''s math here.

I have 1.24 tcw earrings, which I love, but I think around 1 tcw is a great size. And if you pick earrings in the .4x range -- i.e., just below .5 carats each -- you''ll avoid the premium for half-carat studs. Depending on your budget, if you look for something extremely well cut in the 0.9x TCW range, you may be able to get something pretty reasonably priced if you look in the J/SI color/clarity range.

I voted for 1.5 ctw, I''d love to have over a carat in each ear, but I have pretty small ears so I''m not sure that''d work. After getting an ering and wedding band a good pair of studs is next on my diamond wish list, I have a smaller pair now I wear but would love an upgrade.

Mine are 80 tcw and I love the size. I tried 62 tcw - too small. But I have tiny ears and lobes so the 80 tcw looks very large to my eye.

This is probably going to depend on the person - the head, the ears, the whole "look." What I think is large someone else might think small.

I think it would be interesting to see what people think a perfect size for a diamond solitaire ring would be. But that''s more complex. Let''s say a round brilliant.

I like the littler ones - .25 to .50 tcw.

Then again, that might be because that''s about all I''ll be able to afford for a while, LOL!

I'm totally an all or nothing gal. I'm saving up for bezel studs from WF. And it'll take me - as long as it takes me.

The waiting sucks, but I know that in the end, it will be worth if to have exactly what I want!

ETA: Diamondseeker - I had done some post hunting on the martini settings, and I thought the general consensus was as long as you don't sleep in them or have them on super tight, hole stretching isn't a problem. Did I miss something?

Mine are .82 tcw and look perfect for every day wear.
